Quote:Watergate had more indictments because Republicans working for Nixon believed the Vietnam War had to be won at whatever cost, no matter how high, and the Democrat running against Nixon, George McGovern, would have stopped the war immediately, without a victory. Nixon's people had to stop McGovern with any dirty trick they could think of. But winning the election did not win in Vietnam -- that war was already lost before voters gave Nixon a landslide victory of 520 Electoral votes to 17 for McGovern. The vast majority of voters understood nothing about the war or Nixon.

In a special report, MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent, Ari Melber, examines how despite claims that the Russia probe is a “witch-hunt”, Bob Mueller has proven to be one of the fastest and most effective Special Counsels in U.S. history, racking up indictments at the fastest pace since Watergate. Melber runs through the numerous achievements in the Russia probe and how despite Trump’s relatively short period in office, the Mueller probe has seen “the highest rate of indictments for his aides than any president ever.” Former Chief of Staff to Bob Mueller, John Carlin, tells Ari Melber “we should be proud as Americans, but also alarmed at what he’s been able to show us has occurred.”

White House hasn’t provided ‘a single piece of paper’ to Oversight, despite 12 requests
One of the top House Democratic investigators accused President Donald Trump’s White House on Tuesday of engaging in “an unprecedented level of stonewalling, delay and obstruction.”

Why, he says he's done nothing wrong? I don't get it.

Quote:Perhaps the oversight Committee is unable to make a compelling argument before a judge.
White House Counsel Pat Cipollone has argued in past letters to House investigators that their requests exceed the Constitutional limits on Congress’ oversight authority. Presidents can assert executive privilege to shield certain confidential communications from compelled disclosure so advisers can feel comfortable delivering candid advice on potentially explosive issues.
Congressional and Justice Department investigators can take subpoenas and document requests to the D.C. Circuit Court to compel disclosure, if they believe such conversations and documents are in the public interest.
Oh, btw, not one mention of Trump 'colluding' with Russia to throw the 2016 election.

Countdown Clock to Trumps impeachment " STARTS"
Even Nancy says impeachment is off the table. No impeachment is going to happen for at least the next 2 years.
So why are you all still talking about it, like it's a real thing?

Maria Butina’s Legal Bills Are Being Paid by a Russian Who Has Supported Texas Independence

"Accused Russian spy Maria Butina is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to conspiracy against the United States in December of last year. Efforts to end the legal saga have stalled as the government keeps requesting delays–without telling the defense why–which have likely kept Butina in detention longer than the sum total of her eventual sentence is even likely to be. All the while, some of Butina’s legal bills have been paid by a man who runs a non-governmental organization (NGO) with alleged ties to the Kremlin.
According to The Atlantic‘s Natasha Bertrand, 30-year-old Russian lobbyist Alexander Ionov has been fundraising on Butina’s behalf by way of a fundraising website hawking “The Maria Butina Legal Expense Fund”–based in Virginia–since sometime in 2018.
The website offers a sympathetic and dramatic retelling of Butina’s fall from grace as a Republican Party and National Rifle Association (NRA) influencer."
She also employs a PR firm and has an agent.
Is this a great country or what?
She needs to thank Trump and the Republicans for that.

And sure, it's all politics. But that's the way this democracy runs. Personally, I wish we had a parliamentary system, without the added bonus - I mean boondoggle - of also having a president. I believe it keeps the PM and ruling party or coalition more accountable, since they can be voted out any time. But, we have what we have. So unless you're talking - what - revolution? assassination? extra-judicial justice for 'traitors'? roaming the streets in gangs to beat up the wrong sorts of people? - we'll both have to be content to watch the workings plod along. So we both of us will see. If waiting and seeing makes me a troll, I guess that makes you a troll too.
eta: As an aside, I'm intensely curious to see what's in the Mueller report. I'm glad the House symbolically voted unanimously to release it, and Trump's indicated he's OK with releasing it as well. I sure do hope that's what happens.

Yeah. It's a good one. I couldn't find the Grammy performance though. That was a great live version.

Quote:If Mueller proved Trump took a billion dollar bribe from Putin, the Republican Senators would convince themselves that it was a "business loan". If Mueller had a wire-tape of Trump asking Putin to steal the election, the Senators would convince themselves that Trump said "steel", with "ee", not "ea". There will never be evidence that can't be explained as completely innocent, that only looks bad but isn't, as far as 90% of GOP Senators and Trump voters are concerned.
