Like to think my guardian angel is my dad. I saw his ghost when I was in the hospital.

No, the neurosurgeon said to me after 6months passed the surgery that most of the brain tumours he removes are cancerous.

No worries Jack. My memories from right around when I went into the hospital are spotty at most. I can remember pieces of the three weeks and I know how close it was to my mom's birthday when I got out of the hospital...but other than that.

That's amazing. I think you need to get your work published, Brenda. I can't imagine surviving what you went through is a fluke. I don't know what I believe in but I've seen things I can't explain myself and I know we've talked about this before. I don't have any of the answers, but I don't believe that things like this just happen randomly for no reason.

So I went to the doctor today. No clean bill of health, of course, until I get the labwork done and get the results, but a little look under the hood by the doctor gave much better results than I was anticipating. :)

No BP meds for me, at least not now. It was moderately high, but not enough to make my doctor even bring up the possibility of medication (even though they are aware of my family history of high blood pressure).

My lungs sounded great (in his words). That's considering I've been smoking for 22 years and I just finally got over a flu-turned-bronchitis that has held me down for the past 5 or so weeks. Heart sounds good. Pulse all the way down to my legs is a go.

I cringe to think what those results would have been had he checked me out 2 years ago in the height of my drinking before I got this physical job and lost all of that weight.

Going to be tested this week for diabetes/anemia/thyroid disorder among anything else that gets tested in a regular lab setting.

Fingers crossed for you too, SIX!

Speaking of diabetes ... and cooking .... (I get around to posting about cooking or gardening sooner or later!) ... I made a fantabulous stir-fry yesterday, and the great thing was a lot of it was leftovers so I cleaned out the veggie drawer too.

My veggie mix:
A ginormous carrot, diced
About 1/2T grated ginger and 1/2T grated garlic
Sesame oil
3 celery stalks, sliced
About 2 c shredded cabbage leftover
1 med zucchini, sliced diagonal leftover
1/2 diced red pepper leftover
A handful snow peas, leftover
about 1 c frozen peas, leftover
Stir fry

For dear daughter, I mixed her veggies with cooked rice, soy sauce a tad of sugar
But for hubby (who has diabetes) and me (allergic to rice) I mixed our veggies with pre-prepared spaghetti-style shiratake noodles (no cal, no carbs), soy sauce and a tad of sugar. I knew the rice would work out, but I was surprised at how well the veggies and noodles worked out. Family was happy and asked for seconds, so I was happy too!

I am still trying to find a publisher for my book. I've had a number of people tell me that there has to be a reason I got so lucky. Sometimes I think I just haven't found it yet.

Those are great results for a just under the hood check.

When you get to the lab, the doctor will want your heart checked through your blood, thyroid, diabetes, cancer, vitamin levels and mineral levels.

So my fingers are definitely crossed for you Jack.

I wish I could help with advice on getting published. I don't know anybody who is even remotely in that business. I know of a few self-made youtubers who have published works and make a good living between both their youtube videos and those works, but I don't know them well enough where I could likely get them to take time out of their day to respond to me about advice on your situation.

I believe that you could fairly easily set up an Amazon store account and sell some of your works there in e-book format. While I wouldn't recommend that avenue for something you're particularly proud of and I'd hold back on that until you can get a legitimate publishing deal somewhere, you might consider some of your smaller works for that platform to get your stuff out there and maybe make a few bucks while getting some word of mouth advertising?

lol... Yeah. I'll be 40 this year. I've had a few brushes with death in my life, not including trying to passively kill myself with booze and drugs for years. At times in my life I thought that I was meant to do something since I was still here. Maybe that's still true, but I don't put that kind of pressure on myself anymore though. We've got enough pressure in life already right? Putting external pressure on yourself, particularly of a supernatural nature probably isn't necessary. I wasn't trying to do that to you... just making supportive talk is all. :)

Talking my test results with my mom, she got on the topic of smoking and how nobody noticed that she had quit, even my step-dad, until about a month and a half after she finally did. I never knew that, but I laughed and said "well... that's how you have to do it. When you want to quit a bad habit, just STFU about it and do it." When I quit drinking this time, and it stuck, I didn't even mention to anybody that I had until I was already sober for around 4-6 months. My only other time trying to quit in the previous 5 years I was telling people ALL THE TIME that I had and it only lasted about 3 to 4 months before I went back to it. I think my thought processes were that if I had put the pressure of everybody else expecting me to be sober that would help. It didn't. I remember my old man saying one time "That's great. Maybe one day you'll be sober long enough where you don't need to talk about it anymore". That's when I realized that all I did was talk about it, and that I was thinking about it all the time. It wasn't long after that comment that I went back to drinking.

I'm still trying to figure out how and where I can get the lab done without being reamed. It's not easy.

Going to get my teeth cleaned today. That will be nice. :)

40 is a big milestone but really anything after that is gravy.

I had thought about Amazon but they also charge for publishing things. So, I've kinda counted them out. So, I am still looking for a proper publisher or even an agent in Canada.

No worries Jack. That's why it is called "smalltalk". Just shooting the breeze as the old timers say. I work at trying not to put too much pressure on myself or regret too much that I think or feel that I've missed out on life.

Walked out of my doctor's office this year with my clean bill of health and said, "I've got another 50years left on this planet and I am just trying to enjoy them."

That's maybe why I don't talk about my writing too much as it will put too much pressure on me and it is hard enough trying to find stuff as it is.

I hope you can get that lab work done as it will give you a better clue as to what is going on in your body and if anything needs to be taken care o
