Donald Trump Jr. 'dogs' Ocasio-Cortez, so she reminds the president's son of her subpoena power.

In many scandals -- even Watergate -- the party of the accused remained loyal to the alleged wrongdoer for a long time until the political costs become very clear.

If the House moved forward and voted for articles of impeachment, the biggest question has to do with the Senate, where two-thirds of the chamber would have to vote in favor of removing a president. Will there be enough evidence to persuade 20 Republicans to join Democrats in favor of a conviction?

Ironically, the other insurance policy that President Trump has been counting on -- the very conservative Vice President Mike Pence -- can turn into a liability. After all, if Republicans reach a tipping point in 2019 and determine that a scandal-ridden President can drag down the rest of the party, they might rally behind Pence for president, assured that he would stay loyal to the party agenda.

These are unsettling days for the Trump administration. The President is hoping that he can simply ignore what the investigators have to say or else just tweet them out of existence. But that's not how Washington works. It is a tough town and there are breaking points for any party when the costs of supporting a politician become unbearable. That's when the partisanship that the President has counted on could turn into his biggest problem.

Since the U.S. intelligence community released its report www.dni.gov/files/documents/ICA_2017_01.pdf on the Russian campaign to assist Donald Trump in the 2016 election, the American people have been seeking an answer as to whether the Trump campaign colluded with its Russian counterpart. In the endless speculation about the direction of the investigation, a common view was that maybe the investigation would never implicate President Trump or find any collusion.

Maybe Mueller found collusion. Maybe: www.thedailybeast.com/mueller-is-telling-us-hes-got-trump-on-collusion

The GOP will agree with the President, who tweeted this morning:
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
AFTER TWO YEARS AND MILLIONS OF PAGES OF DOCUMENTS (and a cost of over $30,000,000), NO COLLUSION!

The likelihood that Trump will experience any consequences for his actions — even if there is ironclad proof that Trump committed very serious crimes — is close to zero so long as Trump occupies the White House.

Simply put, the framers of our Constitution had no idea how politics actually work. And that left us with a Constitution that offers no good remedies against a criminal president.

Trump won't be punished. The best hope is that he won't be reelected.

I heard a constitutional lawyer claim she looked into if a president could or could not be indicted. She said all those who made the case you could not were representing presidents; we'll see. You can't make the argument a president can't be indicted if he shot and killed someone. Therefore I believe he can.

As for your case about the republican led senate, we know, we know. What we don't know is what else will be revealed that may change that. Right now we have court documents claiming Trump committed two felonies while campaigning. I'm betting there are many more.

As for collusion, we know there was through Cohen, Manafort, and others. Looks like Stone and Trump Jr. to name two more. Remember Jared Kushner was in the Trump Tower meeting as well. Remember, who did Trump Jr. speak with on the phone when he left that meeting. Those phone records are going to be the first thing the democrats subpoena. Collusion, collusion, collusion...

tick tock
