I had to look that up: that was the Whittier Narrows quake. I was about an 1/8 mile from the epicenter in my pickup on my employer's parking lot. Late for work. Again. The truck literally bounced off the pavement; it was quite a ride! And it was 31 years ago. Hmmm....
So, you were in LA?

It wasn't one quake. I think they were counting 4.0 and above. It was something like 3 or 4 times the number of prior years. There was a Northridge or Sherman Oaks quake, there was one where the freeways collapsed maybe in Oakland, some others with damage.
Of all the quakes I was in, I was only aware of 2 in the moment. One was in my car, which was a soft suspension sports car, stopped in traffic in Tustin, and I didn't understand why the traffic lights (on poles) were shaking, swaying, jittering.
The other was a Sunday morning, on the verge of waking in bed, that netherworld between sleep and awake. That was the first time I truly understood "I felt the earth move" and realized it was the same weightless sensation as follows an orgasm. I was wondering which babe was waking me with an orgasm this time, but I was alone.
Lived and worked at El Toro, then lived in Orange, Tustin, Torrance, Inglewood/Hawthorne and worked Mission Viejo, Irvine, LAX, and I think Carson City?
When I visit CA in recent years I make a beeline for BeefBowl and Round Table Pizza. Oklahoma ruined my memories of Carl's Jr. And Naugles is gone, Del Taco is different.

Oh, I remember all of the "big ones" in/near LA
Whittier 1987
As mentioned, was in my pickup about 1/8 mi away from the epicenter, just getting to work, the left front-right rear tires were literally bouncing 6" or so off the asphalt. When I realized there was nothing I could do to keep the truck from bouncing into other parked cars ... OTOH there was nothing going to happen to me unless the earth literally swallowed me up ... it was kinda fun. OTOH when I missed my AM coffee, I had the worst caffeine w/drawal headache in the world. I remember standing in the parking lot with my friends and co-workers while the pavement shuddered, twitched, and jolted like a horse's skin when it's trying to get rid of flies. I was driving during the major aftershock, I felt my car bucking and (seemed like) stalling .... I thought I had a fuel filter blockage but my RPMs were fine and it cleared up after 30 seconds or so, so I shrugged my shoulders but when I got to work realized that it had been an earthquake.
Loma Prieta (San Fran) 1989
This didn't really affect us except on TV. The sight of the collapsed freeways, tho with smoke pouring out from between the layers of concrete, knowing there had been people in there when the overpass fell ... well. It made me extremely conscious every time I was under an overpass or bridge.
Landers 1992
This was far enough away that we only got the "big" waves, so for us ... at 6 ayem ... it was a big roller. At the time we lives pretty close to the high-tension lines that carry power north from the Haynes and AES generating stations in Long Beach, and THAT earthquake just happened to hit the right frequency to get those high-tension lines to swinging ... like getting a swing to swing really high by pushing just at the right time. What I recall was that, aside from swinging heavily from side-to-side, we were hearing a LOUD humming/buzzing and seeing a bright flash of electrical arcing when the lines approached each other.
Northridge 1994
Now THAT earthquake was scary! Also in the AM dark, of all the earthquakes I thought for sure that was was going to bring down our (two story) townhouse. Earthquakes all seem to have their own "personality" ... some are slow rollers, some are single jolts ... it all depends on which frequencies/motions are hitting with what strength and for how long. With THIS quake it was like we were getting hit with every frequency all at once ... at the same time that our bed was swinging back and forth and jumping up and down it was also vibrating heavily and doing circles, and it went on and on and on ... if it had gone on much longer I thought the building was going to pull itself apart for sure.
Anyway, it's been a long time since any of that ...

No problem. I just found another website that had it. If you go to "images.google.com", just click the camera icon at the end of the search bar and dump the URL in there. It will find you a ton of identical and/or very close matches to whatever photo you put in there.

You can actually still do pretty much what you always could with it, but it's not as convenient as it used to be. I do admit, it's kind of a pain now compared to how it was before, but I laugh when I read a title like that about how the "internet rages". Seems our collective need for instant gratification is getting so out of hand these days that we "rage" when the company that's bigger than God gets put in its place by the government for one of it's monopolistic practices.
It should have been a day of celebration, but iz needz muh catz memez now!
