Trump says tariffs are working “big time.” Here are 5 pieces of evidence that’s not the case.

1. Farmers needed a $12 billion bailout

“Tariffs are the greatest,” Trump declared in a tweet in late July. Hours later, reports emerged that his administration is planning to give $12 billion in emergency aid to farmers hurt by those “great” tariffs.

As Vox’s Tara Golshan laid out, the agriculture industry is among the hardest-hit sectors as foreign countries retaliate with tariffs of their own. China, Mexico, and Canada have responded to the US’s measures with taxes on American soybeans, dairy, pork, apples, and potatoes, among other products. Prices for soybeans have dropped to a 10-year low, and soybean exporters rushed to get their product out of the country earlier this year ahead of the impending trade war.

Trump’s trade tactics, effectively, have necessitated a $12 billion farmer bailout.

2. Other countries are making trade deals without the US

After taking office, Trump announced that he would withdraw the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and promised to make good on his campaign-trail promises to renegotiate new deals he deems more fair, including an overhaul of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). That’s not exactly how it’s worked out — there’s still no new NAFTA, and the bilateral deals Trump has focused so much of his rhetoric on have largely failed to materialize.

What’s more, other countries are moving on without the US.

Japan and the EU in July agreed to an outline for a trade deal that would rival the size of NAFTA — a consequence, in part, of Trump’s TPP withdrawal. The same goes for the 11-country Asia-Pacific trade agreement signed in March, which will reduce tariffs on nations that together make up more than 13 percent of the global economy. (Had the US signed on to the deal under the TPP, it would have represented 40 percent.) China has also been shopping for new trade agreements as the US has stepped back from the global stage.

“Other countries now have very strong incentives to do business independent of the US and independent of the dollar,” Moody’s Analytics economist Mark Zandi recently told me.

3. The tariffs are showing up in consumer prices and business decisions

Tariffs are taxes imposed on goods and services. Trump’s case is that it’s foreign companies that pay them, but ultimately, they often wind up being shouldered by US consumers. And there’s evidence that’s what’s happening now.

Aluminum and steel tariffs could cost the US beer industry $348 million per year alone, according to the Washington Post, citing the Beer Institute. The rest of the beverage industry is taking taking a hit, too: Coca-Cola, for example, has said it has to raise prices. The National Association of Home Builders has said that Trump’s tariffs on softwood lumber from Canada have increased the cost of building a home by $7,000. Machinery maker Caterpillar has said it will raise prices. Winnebago is upping the cost of its RVs, too, and washing machine prices have spiked.

Harley-Davidson has said Trump’s trade tactics will result in it moving some production overseas altogether. Mid-Continent Nail announced layoffs because of them.

4. The tariffs aren’t making a dent in the United States’ debt

Trump’s claim on Sunday that the tariffs would allow the US to start paying down “large amounts” of the US’s $21 trillion debt isn’t true.

The amount of tariffs the president has imposed so far — about $85-billion worth of foreign goods — isn’t enough to make a dent in the US’s $21 trillion deficit. The Washington Post’s Heather Long did the math and found that Trump’s tariffs would raise about $21 billion at most, or 0.1 percent of the total debt:

Since taking office, Trump has added substantially to the debt, with a large tax cut and additional government spending on the military and various domestic

Well... maybe the MSM shouldn't have been throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Trump.

It would actually be a real shame if there is something to this Russia narrative and nobody pays it any mind since the MSM has been relentlessly attacking every single thing that the man has done and said since day one.

Oh yeah, and calling everyone that voted for him a racist and misogynist hasn't helped either.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Except it's true when it comes to MAGA. Just ask the world what they think of Trump.

‘There’s Hell to Pay’: Karl Rove Savages Trump Over Epstein, Obama, and Jan. 6 Conspiracy Theories in Scathing WSJ Column

Legendary GOP operative Karl Rove savaged President Donald Trump over his promotion of various conspiracy theories in a new column for The Wall Street Journal.

“We’re seeing what happens when conspiracy collides with reality,” began Rove before remarking on how the ongoing scandal over the Trump administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case has caused a “break in the MAGA ranks” that “may linger.”

“For years, Mr. Trump raised questions about Epstein… After assuming the presidency a second time, Mr. Trump was obligated to deliver,” continued Rove, who observed that “Many in MAGA reacted with incredulity and anger” when he didn’t.

“There’s hell to pay when those who hyped the conspiracy have closed the books on the case. Team Trump is now in damage control mode. They’ve also fought among themselves. That will leave scars,” he gibed.

Other conspiracies await action by the White House. Some MAGA leaders believe the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol was an inside job designed to embarrass Mr. Trump. They say government agent provocateurs encouraged otherwise innocent protesters to storm the Capitol, beat up law enforcement and interrupt a joint Congressional session. Moreover, the president and many MAGA followers insist the 2020 election was stolen by Democrats stuffing ballot boxes and discarding Trump votes.

Will the Trump administration now discover the perpetrators of these crimes and bring them to justice?

Team Trump could produce evidence that confirms the conspiracy advocates were right. They could reveal just how the 2020 election was stolen—computers in Europe, miscounted ballots, phony election returns, etc.—and identify the Deep State agents who conceived this crime against our democracy and bring them to justice. Team Trump could also produce the evidence that Jan. 6 was a Deep State plot to discredit the president by causing law-abiding Americans to breach police lines and storm the Capitol.

But in truth there is no “there” in either case. Neither happened. Years have passed, yet there has been no real evidence or successful court case proving the vast conspiracies around the 2020 election or Jan 6.

However, if Team Trump admits the election wasn’t stolen and government agents didn’t organize the Capitol assault, MAGA conspiracy theorists would be furious and the president’s base further weakened and fractured.

“That’s not all. Katie-bar-the-door if National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard doesn’t send someone to jail for what she calls the ‘treasonous conspiracy in 2016’ by top Obama administration officials to destroy Mr. Trump in that year’s election,” added the Fox News contributor before submitting that “Conspiracy theories undermine trust and cause chaos. When they are believed by large numbers of people, truth and reality become subjective. None of that bothers Mr. Trump.”

“What should trouble him,” concluded Rove, “is that recent events may well reduce the number of his supporters who vote in the midterms and beyond. Told their passionately held beliefs are wrong or forced to watch the White House fail to jail their common enemies, many might become discouraged, tune out and drop out of politics.”

Trump is currently pursuing legal action against the Journal over a story it published about a suggestive card he allegedly sent Epstein for the late sex criminal’s 50th birthday.

Call Trump stupid all you'd like, but your dead party pulled everything out of their book including colluding with China to unleash covid to destroy Trump and look at where they sit now.

They're dead. Trump killed them. And you helped with that. Pat yourself on the back, big boy. You've earned it.
