I, for one, would love to say that he's stupid. But he's a manipulator, getting others to do his dirty work. Narcissists are known for that. Plus he's a coward. So, is he crazy like a Fox?

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats was joined by several other high-ranking national security officials before the White House press briefing Thursday to say that, yes, Russia is still trying to interfere in U.S. election and, yes, the Trump administration takes this very seriously.
On the other hand, Trump referred to the current special counsel investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 campaign as a “witch hunt” three times Wednesday.

Trump repeatedly uses the phrase “enemies of the people” in his attacks on the media. That phrase became well known in the 20th century when it was adopted by dictators from Stalin to Mao, and Nazi propagandists, to justify their murderous purges of millions. Stalin was perhaps most closely associated with the phrase.
Trump is stupid.

Yeah. That's going a little too far in my book. I wouldn't know because I don't pay any attention. Trump's rambling certainly doesn't plague my thoughts like it does yours, anyhow.
That being said, I don't think that the MSM on either side is a friend of the people. They're careless, reckless and all they give a shit about is their ratings, so they cater to one rabid fanbase or the other, and the end result is you get two completely different ridiculous stories about the same events depending on which team you're rooting for.
I guess at the end of the day you just have to remember that such a small percentage of Americans even watch the news if you look at the ratings, so most people are still pretty sane.

On the tapes, Nixon made his confessions in private. Trump makes his in public. Since I was there, I know Americans were more alert 44 years ago to what the President's explanations meant.
The Watergate tapes stand as one of the stunning, implausible twists of American history. Nixon confessed his crimes and recorded himself in the process. Who does that?
In their book The Final Days, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein write, “the single thread that linked the problems together was the President’s tapes. The lawyers represented a President who had bugged himself, who had blurted his secrets into hidden microphones. They had not yet heard the tapes, nor seen any transcripts of them. The President would not permit it. They were told to mount a defense, but were not given the information to do so.”
The Watergate scandal became about those tapes — the battle to make them public and expose Nixon’s private confessions. Without the tapes, a resignation would have been unlikely. This was a flimsy bit of providence, a ridiculous chance act upon which the integrity of our political system came to rest. But so it went.
The White House today has no internal taping system. But it has, perhaps, something serving the same purpose: Donald Trump himself.
Trump has a reputation as a liar, and he is one, when it serves him. But he also has a tendency to blurt out the truth in explosive moments of public honesty. “At times Trump acts publicly the way Nixon acted privately, as we know him from the [White House] tapes,” NYU professor and former Nixon Library director Tim Naftali told Vox.
The seminal instance of this came in Trump’s 2017 interview with NBC’s Lester Holt after firing FBI Director James Comey. The White House had crafted the story carefully, telling reporters the cause was low morale at the bureau and Comey’s handling of the Hillary Clinton investigation, and releasing a cautiously worded statement making clear that Trump was following the advice of staff.

Trump emerged out of reality television, cable news, and caps-lock tweeting, and his great gift is his ability to own our attention in the precise ways those mediums own our attention — by stoking conflict, deepening grievance, starting fights, and turning everything, absolutely everything, into can’t-look-away entertainment.
It’s damn hard for the media to resist because Trump’s behavior really is so outlandish, and because if everyone else in the media is covering Trump’s latest comments you feel like you’re missing the story if you focus elsewhere, and because there really is audience demand, and because Trump rallies make for damn good TV segments and Facebook posts.
Trump manages the government clumsily, but he controls public attention masterfully. He is showing, daily, how the truth can be drowned under a sea of irrelevance, how easily Trump can defend the indefensible if he casts it as entertainment.
The politicians who follow him will learn his lessons.
