Why did the IRS not collect $3.44 trillion? It is the same reason as why the IRS has not discovered Trump is a tax cheat. The IRS does not have a budget large enough to find the tax cheating.

Diving back in kind of reminds me of Charlton Heston waking from his space travel to discover that he’s on a planet run by orangutans. Except instead of orangutans**, we have the Republican Party.
Here’s what’s been going on:
1) After the White House fully participated in the negotiation of a bipartisan omnibus appropriation bill, up to and including multiple formal statements of administration support, the president tweeted a threat to veto the bill. He then signed it after all at a press event where he also denounced it.
2) At that press event, the president said the only reason he was signing it was that it provided vitally necessary money for the Defense Department. In private, he keeps saying he regrets signing it and really the military should divert money from its account to build a border wall. (This is unconstitutional, FYI, that’s why they write appropriations bills.)
3) The administration retaliated for Russia’s annoying habit of assassinating residents of Western countries by expelling some diplomats. But Trump — who is under intense suspicion of unseemly ties to the Russian government — has said absolutely nothing about it personally, even though that would be an easy way to dispel the rumors he’s being blackmailed sexually by Russian intelligence services.
4) Speaking of sexual blackmail, a porn actress and a former Playboy centerfold have both come forward to say they received covert hush money payments to keep their dalliances with Trump secret. Republicans on the Hill have made zero effort to try to figure out exactly how compromised (and by whom) the president is.
5) Danny Vinik published a devastating exposé in Politico showing that the Trump administration systematically favored Texas over Puerto Rico in the disbursement of hurricane relief. It made basically no impact on the discourse.
To be fair to Trump, the other thing that happens if you step away from the news cycle is you see that things are basically fine. During the election, I saw two possible scenarios for a Trump administration. Down one road lay cataclysm, whereas down another road Trump would pleasantly surprise us with his job performance.
Reality has confounded both expectations, with Trump displaying no hidden depths whatsoever, even as life continues to be basically fine for most people. America has its share of problems to be sure: sky-high child poverty rate, unsustainable greenhouse gas emissions, infrastructure woes, childcare woes, prescription drug affordability woes, you name it.
But these are basically longstanding issues that our political system writ large has failed to address. They don’t hold a particularly close relationship to the fact that the president is a racist buffoon who is possibly being blackmailed by the FSB over some sex tapes.

In a recent Stanford study, participants were presented with brief passages about crime in a hypothetical city named Addison. For half of the participants, a few words were subtly changed to describe crime as a “virus infecting” the city. For the other half, crime was described as a “beast preying” on the city. Otherwise, the passages remained exactly the same.
Simply changing a few words in the passage dramatically changed people’s ideas of how crime should be dealt with. When asked to come up with solutions for crime, those who read the passage with the “beast” metaphor thought that crime should be dealt with by using more punitive solutions, such as longer jail time. Those who read the passage with the “virus” metaphor thought crime should be dealt with using more reformative measures that addressed the root causes of crime. And the metaphor alone caused an even bigger difference in opinion than pre-existing differences between Republicans and Democrats.

Even Trump allies have reportedly tried to explain to the president why his views are misguided, but he’s having none of it. “The whole post office thing, that’s very much a perception he has,” a source told Axios earlier this week. “It’s been explained to him in multiple meetings that his perception is inaccurate and that the post office actually makes a ton of money from Amazon.”
Although some analysis have claimed that the Postal Service undercharges Amazon, they reach that number “by re-allocating the Post Office’s benefits costs—not the costs specific to package delivery,” notes CBS News, which points out that package delivery is one of the few lines of business that is actually growing. Plus there’s the pesky detail that it would technically be against the law for the Postal Service to lose money on delivering packages. CBS News explains:
The 2006 law also mandated that each line of business within the postal service cover its attributable costs. In other words, for the postal service to lose money on package delivery would be against the law.

It's not a shack. It's a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. Back when Wishy and I were friends here I used to talk about all the repairs I had been making on it, so there's plenty of records here from 5 or 6 years ago of what the house is like. It's barely on a flood plane, which I've said before. Since I have no intention of moving any time soon, I've used this to cut my property taxes nearly in half so it's practically free to live here compared to my friends and family out in Illinois.
I have no mortgage or rent and no debt, so working part time 2 or 3 days a week for a shitty wage fore me is like somebody else making 30-35k a year.
So... yeah. Not poor.
