What Are Your Must-See Films For 2018?

But the cast is a real draw for me. The premise seems promising. I might need to see it. Cast includes Star Wars alum Natalie Portland and Oscar Isaac.

But for people who enjoy the Cloverfield franchise, they may wish to watch either or both new productions without consulting clueless critics.

I don't watch any of the fake news critics. I'm sure there's a million YouTube critics, but I've got a group of them I watch regularly because I personally agree with their takes on movies that I have seen.
As to whether or not Paradox was originally a Cloverfield movie, I found this straight from JJ Abrams...

Actually, If I wasn't in my 20's I probably wouldn't have liked the first one so much. The Goodman one was pretty great, but didn't even need that "Cloverfield" part at the end of it. The acting and setting were great as just a movie about any generic apocalypse as a background character. They could have just ended it with her leaving the bunker to a great white light like the end of Cube and it would have been a better movie.
It sounds to me like what they're doing with Cloverfield now is making the "universe" as pointless as Abrams did to LOST in the end. He seems to be a really good story teller who just can't actually finish a story because of a lack of focus. The only exception to that rule that comes to mind is the ending of Fringe. I'm thinking that had less to do with Abrams and more do do with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci though.

Well, saying " anything Marvel " has so far been a total win, as Black Panther absolutely kicked ass. So yeah, chalk that up as a solid YES.
Not sure what else is coming up, but I may give Annihilation a look see. May be '18's " Arrival " surprise, which was better the 2nd time around.

Wow. Krasinski really kicked his action career into gear with 13 Hours.
Now he'll be Jack Ryan on TV, perhaps the best casting ever for that role. Alec and bafflack were brainless, and Harrison was a few decades older than Ryan was supposed to be. If this casting happened before bafflack, the film might still be a viable franchise. Currently bafflack working hard to wreck DC Comics.
It really does look good. If enough like Pitch Black then a breakthrough.

Looks like Christina Hendricks stars in Strangers: Prey at Night.
I didn't recognize her in the trailer. Can't tell if this is a remake or sequel to The Strangers (2008).
