For me, the saddest in BDM Serenity is River's My Turn.
The saddest in BDP Serenity is the shot of Jayne crouching outside the observation port of the Infirmary while Simon is getting surgical with Kaylee.
And now I see I already mentioned that, about 9 1/2 years ago.
And reading the other posts, I should add in BDP Serenity, when Mal kisses his Crucifix at the Battle of Serenity Valley. The first watching didn't mean much, because I watched the episodes in order. But after the many times in the series when he decries Religion, then to see this was the last time he Believed. This also applies because the Pilot was the last episode aired, presenting this same sequence.

One scene not mentioned so far was the scene in SAFE where Simon and River are
eating berries and River mentions their parents not knowing their father has cut Simon off for trying to rescue her.

Those are sad once the story is known, but I think the power of those lines are diluted by the relevant flashback coming afterwards.
But if River did say that about her Dad and Simon, it could have also been sad, given Summer's delivery.

River mentions their parents, while not knowing that her father had cut off Simon for trying to rescue her.
I just couldn't conjure that that was what was being quoted.
