Yeah... I can make more money on my own during the warm months now that I'm not drinking, and even during the cold months I'm working on a project that I believe will be able to make me quite a bit through crowd funding once a few key pieces of phase one is complete. I can't do much on it when they've got me on 5 days though. That's not something they're regularly going to do though since there are limits to how many hours they can work a part timer on average in any 12 week stretch.

I'm okay with working as many as they'll give me at the moment though.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I hope your project works out.

One of these days I will get back to trying to find a publisher for my book. I just get lazy and when I get hit with a round of depression I just plain don't want to do anything because I don't care.

Thanks. :)

I can empathize. I only have two modes myself 100mph or 0. It's easy enough to blame it on alcohol, but I think that was only the symptom. I'm not saying that I'm not an alcoholic, but it was sure easy to stop when I finally put my mind to it. I practically live on coffee now in place of it.

I said about 7 years ago that this project was something I would never work on again because it consumed my life. That's not hyperbole. I put a good 5 of my prime years into it, and it was only a hobby thing back then.

I've learned to embrace it though. I really enjoy working on it. In hindsight, when I've seen the depths that I can go to when I'm not keeping myself busy I think I'm better off with it in my life. I just need to learn to have some sort of balance in my life.

I hope you can do the same and get that book published. :)

Do Right, Be Right. :)

The depression made itself known after my mom died. Tried to deal with it then but it didn't work. Had to deal with it after my guy died as I found I wasn't thinking straight. So about 3years worth of counselling and now I can handle it. It comes and goes. Holidays are bad or when I hear that someone's had a baby. That's still a bitter pill for me because I was not fortunate enough to have had kids.

I have several sites plugged into my favourites on publishers in Canada and agents. I was straightening out my list for them a while ago and I will go back to it.

My old man seems to think I have depression. I tell him that I'm not sad, and he tells me that you don't need to be to have depression. He's not a doctor, but he read some psychology stuff when my youngest brother was diagnosed with some pretty severe OCD stuff in High School. Maybe he's right... I dunno. Sure as hell ain't going to pay a doctor to tell me what they think I have, especially since I don't want to take any pharmaceuticals of any kind.

I'm an advocate for smoking pot, but I realize that it effects different people in different ways, so I wouldn't personally recommend it to anybody for the first time myself. I know that I'm better on it. The entire time I worked both of my really good jobs I was using practically every day. All I ever do is a few hits a day after work when I use it. Currently I'm not messing with it at all until the laws change. I'm still holding out hope that I luck into a semi-decent job and I don't want to have to worry about passing the drug test.

Do what you need to, to get back into doing what you love doing. If you're anything like me at all then idle hands truly are the devil's playground. Quitting drinking was huge, but it still took about 6 months for me to really get the ball rolling in my life again. Spending all of that time at my parents house helping them move and get ready for the move really helped out a lot. I really didn't want to get a job until after the winter with my car, but I decided stop making excuses and to strike while the iron was hot. My agoraphobia and social anxiety was at bay and I didn't want to risk slipping back into that before working my first job in 2 1/2 years.

I just checked my schedule today and it changed again... lol. They've got me working 5 nights a week this week and the next two weeks. My manager told me that when the listing for the recently vacated team lead position is posted he'll let me know. He's got to work 7 nights a week until he gets that filled. I'm considering it, but not very heavily right now. Not only would it need to pay at least $4/hr more than what I currently make for me to obligate myself to 5-6 nights a week, but I'd have to be confident that it was a stepping stone to some real money sometime in the relatively near future too. I wouldn't be happy working 5-6 nights a week for that for very long. Otherwise, I'm completely copacetic working 2-3 nights a week at what I make until I find something better, or hopefully that project that I'm working on really takes off. :)

Sorry that you didn't have any kids and it's a sore spot for you. You probably read about my history on that, but I'm over it at this point. Near-40-year-old me is happy not having any real obligations or full-time relationships. Sorry about the passing of those close to you too. I'm glad you're finding ways to cope.

It turns out we all actually have tonight off at work. Whoopie! Since I don't drink anymore and don't want to be around everyone doing it, so I think I'm going to take my first night off in a while and just work on my project. I'll probably be around these parts at some point tonight. No sense in going back to a day sc

I get it. Nobody would ever convince me that getting on pharmaceuticals would be a good thing either. All I can say is that it is not addictive. I'm pretty darn certain of that because of my addictive behavior and the several times I managed to cut everything else out of my life including coffee I was never able to quit smoking cigarettes. Weed was easier for me to give up than booze, and probably even easier than coffee too.

Oh yeah. My mom, my dad and my guy and my friends know that a bored Brenda is not a good thing. *L* That's why a friend's mom got me a membership in my local seniors centre when I turned 50. She figured that I could find something to do there. And it has helped along with a small part time job. I'm reading again and I do write a little bit again. So I am not in too bad of shape.

I'm a little worried about that myself when I get older, as in too old to really work. I've never really found a lot of enjoyment in socializing. I mean... I did a lot of it in my youth, but I was heavily intoxicated then. I just never saw the draw of being sober and just hanging out with people. I enjoy spending time with family, but about once a week is enough for me. I've recently started talking with an old friend on the phone a couple of times and we talk about how we should get together... I keep thinking to myself "but what would we do"?

I know. My 1 day a week got screwed up with Christmas and so I will be working this Thursday afternoon. But that is good and I have other errands to run which will be easier now that the ruttin' snow is gone.

Man... enjoy that warm weather. The snow that's fallen here isn't going anywhere soon. I had to break down and turn up the heat in my house because my hands were cold and I don't want my pipes to freeze. At least next week the nights go back to lows in the 20's though.

I always hoped that I would have 1 or 2 kids but my life didn't go that way. First the brain surgery and getting back on my feet after that then my mom had surgery and you look at the clock and think there's still time. Well by the time was right, I was too old for a host of reason. Over 50year old me would love the help I could maybe get from having more family around me. My folks were both older than everyone else's, so my dad went when I was 13 and my mom was cancer and I looked after her through it all. My Blair it was just one of those things. I am. Always working on things.

My brother who had the brain surgery is living that right now. He talks about kids too, but he's always talking about how he wants to get married. It kills me really. He's just so socially awkward, but he really is a nice guy, especially with quite a few years of sobriety under his belt. Sometimes I wish I could just trade places with him. I look at the two of us and think that we're both half-people. If you took the best halves of each of us and made one person, it would be pretty great.

Glad you got tonight off. Don't know what I will do with myself this evening. Find something to watch on YouTube that is not quite right for New Years. *L*

YouTube is my favorite TV these days. I could watch any movies or TV shows I want with Kodi, but I find that 90% or more of my viewing time is on the Tube.

I slept all day. Now that I'm up, it's freezing in my house. Not sure if I'll go back to sleep, but I think I'm going to be under the covers most of the time from now until it's time to go to work tomorrow.

Happy New Year!

But with that medication I stick to the none narcotic drugs. I know when my body has reached its tolerance level for caffeine and I cut down on it for a week or so until it clears out of my body then I go back to it.

Really, you wouldn't smoke all that much if you did. When I do smoke, it's probably about the amount of 1 or 2 cigarettes worth a day, maximum. But like I said, I wouldn't try to get somebody to smoke for their first time. It does effect people differently, and with your history it may be wildly different. I would only suggest that if you ever do try it to just use a little hitter bat and take a single tiny puff and see what it does for you. My first time my friends got me super high and I literally freaked out. It's strange in that you'll never get as high as you did that first time, and that's actually a good thing. I've never heard of a pot smoker trying to chase that first high.

I hear ya Jack. I've never been big on people even when I was a kid, teenager and young adult. I had and have a small group of friends that I talk to on Facebook and see in RL. We have lunch and coffee and talk. But that's about it for now. People I see at the senior's centre are okay for a couple of hours but then I reach my limit and that's okay by me.

Yeah... It's too bad that nobody I know really likes talking on the phone much. I actually like doing that. My grandma who died of cancer a few years back liked it. I miss her.

It won't be that warm. But the sun will be out and walking will be alright. My landlady has heat upstairs but I am cold where I am. My hands are starting to hurt because of it.

Yeah... I don't even really go outside unless I have to for work right now. Good for my lungs since I don't smoke in the house. It's a shame you can't do anything about your situation. I take it you don't live in Illionis or Wisconsin? It would be pretty easy to create trouble for your landlady if you did.

Quote:

Oh, I thought I would get married to or at least have the father of the kids with me.

I thought that way when I was a kid. Hell... I even thought that way up until a few years ago. At this point I know that it wasn't meant to be. I like living alone. I think the only real reason I was ever in relationships at any point in my life was some selfish search for validation. That's nothing to build a lasting relationship on. I'm just finding other ways to fill my time and give myself purpose. Marriage ain't for everybody. I'm okay with that. It used to bother me, but it doesn't anymore.

Well, since I can't get cable being in an illegal suite. I make do. I can find a few things that I like on YouTube, so that is what I do.

"Illegal suite"? Maybe that's throwing a wrench in getting your heat issues taken care of.

Since you do have access to cable TV, you might want to look into an Amazon Firestick with KODI.

If you'd be interested in this, I could walk you through how to set it up so you could stream countless movies and TV shows on it.

No worries. I don't get a kick-back for getting somebody started on it. It's probably smart, given your history. Like I said, I'm not the guy who gets people started smoking. I'm just a huge advocate for legalizing it for everybody who does use it.

I like talking on the phone. I should be talking to a cousin of mine. Last time she wrote me a letter, she chewed me out. *L* Yeah, I miss an aunt of mine like that. My dad's oldest sister. She died of cancer over 10years ago.

Some of my favorite people are gone now... Cancer runs rampant in my mom's family. My dad's family isn't immune, but they've had a lot more luck.

Quote:

Think I've been pretty explicit that I don't live in the US. I live in British Columbia which is in Canada. I've tried all the legal ways to do something about her this year over the summer. Just had no luck with it.

Yeah, sorry. Brain fart. I'd love to give you some advice, but I don't have a clue about laws in your area, let alone Canada. Here in the states it's very different from state to state. Rent is quite a bit higher in Illinois and Wisconsin than it is in Indiana, for instance, but they are required by law to provide you with heat "free" of charge. You're on your own in Indiana. I prefer it that way, personally. If I was renting, I'd have the heat down really low and pocket that extra cash. When I rented in Illinois and Wisconsin I constantly had the heat up to 80 degrees just to try to get my money's worth.

Right now I don't know where I am. I miss my guy still but am open to a new relationship if it happens. Kids aren't there unless I become a step-mother and marriage...I don't know. Blair, I would have done the whole thing for him but now I am back to what I felt like for years that I don't need a piece of paper.

Good luck if you go the step-kids route. Everything about my childhood was a blur of bad stuff after my parents got divorced. I know people who had a much better situation after an amicable divorce though. You'll definitely want to feel that out before rushing into anything you'll regret.

It is and also this place is so badly built it isn't funny. There are holes starting to develop in the walls. The floor is shifting and just a whole host of things wrong.

I'm wondering if there is anything in Canada that is similar to "Section 8 housing" in the US? My brother would have been on a waiting list for decades if he stayed in the Chicagoland area, but he moved a couple hundred miles south and got into a beautiful apartment complex that is mostly for the elderly. I believe his monthly rent is somewhere around $200, with the heat included. You may want to talk to somebody and see what you're options are, if any. It wasn't an easy road to get my brother where he is now, in the S8 housing and on SSDI benefits, but after about 5 years he's being taken care of as he should be with his disabilities. I hate hearing how bad you have it. I wish I could do something to help.

When I get some time I'll see if there are any other options. KODI really is a beautiful thing, and the firestick is only 40 bucks. I could walk you through a few simple procedures and you'd be up and running in no time. You'd have access to tens of thousands of movies and tons of TV shows without having to pay for cable TV.

It won't heat your house, but it might take your mind off of how cold it is until the weather warms up. :)

There is an Amazon store card. www.amazon.com/storecard

I’ve got one and it says “cannot be used in any physical stores”, which means can’t use it anywhere but Amazon. Amazon really, really doesn't want you to buy from www.walmart.com with your Amazon card.

That's a great idea SECOND.

*****

And, in rain-related news .... as in, not so far this year .... we're having the ever-receding rain forecast again this year. Highest-ever recorded heat waves (yanno, to match the polar vortex in the rest of the contiguous states!) along with no rain, and yet MORE no rain!

The rain goddess ... such a tease. Like in the previous five-year record drought, there is rain in the forecast in the next three days ... nope, five days .... nope, it disappeared from the ten-day forecast. Then it reappears again in a week or two ... RAIN! A one-inch storm coming! Nope ... a half inch. Well, maybe a tenth. No, not coming at all.

As the storms approach, they thin out and evaporate. The Ridiculously Resilient Ridge looks like it's made a comeback.

I'm sure glad I ripped out my front lawn and most of the back lawn!

Didn't know that Second.

Well... that's an option, if you can find a store card at a walmart near you.

I wouldn't be too worried about screwing anything up. As far as I know, you can't screw something up so bad on the firestick that you brick it with any of the methods I've used. They have a pretty fail-safe "factory reset" feature that will let you start from scratch.

When I first started using KODI, it was pretty complex. You couldn't do it directly from the stick itself. Without going into techy stuff, you needed to have a PC, your network and the stick, and download a bunch of programs and run some pretty mundane commands.

These days, you can do everything with the remote that comes with it. As long as you can connect the firstick to the same network that your computer is that you use to post messages here at fff.net, you can get everything up and running.

Let me know if you do this and you get one. I'd be happy to reset mine, and use one of the current youtube tutorials first to make sure everything is working, and then send you the link.

Oh yeah, it's so easy to do now that you can watch a video to get it done. :)

The only "problem" with it, is that it currently doesn't auto-update, so on occasion you'd have to reinstall KODI. This would just require finding a new video with new instructions on how to do it. I've only had to do this a few times in about 4 years. It's been my experience that with each update they've also made the process easier to do as well. Hopefully one of these days they make the program auto-update so you don't even have to do that anymore.

If this happens, you can always just ask and I could help you out again.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
