Continental US, tough guy. Alaska is a whole different climate.

And I'm not talking accumulated, I mean ONE storm, obviously.

2010 saw 32 in one, so It's actually not that common. Here are some others...

2003-20
1996-48
1993-50
1978-27
1977-40
1974-24
1967-23
1950-57

IIRC Winter starts on 22 December. 3 days into winter Erie, PA gets 3 ft on Christmas Day.
Yep, not common at all.

Yuck. It went from comfortable last week to frigid this week, and into the foreseeable future on weather.com. 3 degrees by me last night.

They're saying that most of the upper states will have a colder and wetter than average next 3 months, and most of the middle and southern states will have an average and warmer/dryer than normal season.

Of course, the Chicagoland area needs to be one of the two places on the map that have a big ole dark spot indicating the highest chance for greater than average precipitation. Great time for my car to start leaking 1 quart of oil every 60 or so miles. I might have to break down and get a car loan for the first time in 17 years so I don't end up losing my job... or end up getting stranded on the express way when it's -5 degrees out without a cell phone.

Good news, Wishy. Assuming you live at least 100-150 miles south of Chicago, you shouldn't have too bad a winter. I don't remember how far south you are.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I heard it's been a high of 10 below the last couple days in my hood, too cold to snow.
Supposed to warm up to 10 above and maybe snow.

Guess you missed the part where it said it is a RECORD, as in NOT COMMON AT ALL?

You'd have to be able to get your head out of your ass for that though.

I should have gone with me first instinct. Reading all the "neutral nino" crap had me questioning myself...

"Late teens years are notorious for turbulence.

Big Snow may not be this year (although my arthritis is already in suck mode), but I have a feeling it's coming soon. "

Never doubt the bones...

News says forecast for central Florida has snow. Likely not 2 ft, though.
