I finally got a minute to watch it. You can tell that MacFarlane is used to voice acting still. There are moments where you can see him visually struggle with body position and facial expressions. Some of the other actors are wooden as hell and having trouble finding any character personality.

And tiny girl security chief, yeah, if she came from high gravity she would be short AND built like a body builder. I would have an easier time believing a bodybuilding little person than zero muscle chick.

I like some of the jokes, like his conversation with his "parents" and Kermit. I like that it feels more like people on a ship would feel, than androids on a ship. The Star Trek TNG movies were moving in that direction.

It's got potential. Imma see where it goes.

Star Trek Discovery captain dares fans NOT to watch ?

I would like to watch Discovery, but I'm not gonna pay, neither are a lot of people. I might do the all-access trial next year when I run out of things to watch.

Dares me not to watch?

Ok. Done.

The Orville is actually satisfying my Trek urge pretty well.

So is this any good? I never even heard about this show until yesterday.

Saw a review about the unfortunately titled STD that kind of slammed it because it's all LASERS AND EXPLOSIONS and WAR, when Trek used to be about hope for the future and unity and the evolution of mankind.

They had mentioned that they're probably just going to watch Orville instead. From what I'm seeing here, Orville is no DS9.

It's more TOS and TNG, with humor mixed in.
I'm not going to say it's great, but it does capture the early Trek "spirit", and it has been relatively entertaining so far.

I've never been a huge Trek fan, although I didn't mind TNG and Voyager and even Eneterprise, although that last one just got boring to me after a while. I never really liked the movies all that much either.

I don't know what it was about DS9 though. I really enjoyed that show, like, a LOT. I think it had the most compelling and likable characters of all of the Trek universe.

I'll have to give Orville a chance.

Do you ignore us outside RWED?

I thought Galaxy Quest was the better comparison, but Orville doesn't come close.

I've been watching. I thought the first few episodes were pretty lame, but last week's episode with the big ship harboring an internal habitat with a centuries-old civilization was quite good. Reminded me of "The Starlost" series, and also Star Trek's "For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky" episode. I hope this improving trend continues.

LOL... I guess I'm branching out. I never posted in the Sci-Fi forum until a few days ago. Never posted in the Cinema forum until a few months ago.

Pretty much just came here for the RWED all these years.

Shame that Orville doesn't come close to Galaxy Quest. I was kind of hoping it would.
