Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985)
Fred Ward ... Remo Williams
Joel Grey ... Chiun
6.4 stars on IMDb - that's about right. So not recommending it, but ...
It is worth a watch for Grey.
What I remember about it: at one point, they were messing around on
top of a skyscraper, scaring me a lot.
But mainly, there's a scene where Williams' mentor, Chiun, runs on
water. "The true scene stealer in this action-packed, fast-paced film is
Joel Grey as the Korean martial/mental arts master, Chiun, who delivers
the best lines and performance of the movie."

Chiun also has the best lines and performance in every one of the books in the series - several hundred volumes. I had not imagined Harold Smith being played by Wilford Brimley, but was glad of the casting at the time. I was disappointed that the film was done poorly enough that more films in the series were not generated - but I thought the editing was sub-par.
They should have not delayed for 14 years after first publication (22 years after manuscript was completed). The same problem for Shooter, released 14 years after Point of Impact climbed the Best Seller List.
