Yep. Thats the one. I caught it quite by accident years ago and I was really impressed with the pacing of it. Daniels is good in it, and I liked the concept. I don't know anything about the short stories though. Does it even credit the short story do you know?
Hey, I have this one too. It was definitely called Timescape in the UK because I had an old VHS tape of it and then I had to get the DVD from the US which had the Grand Tour title.
I really liked it as well, the idea of why the travellers were there and the impact Jeff Daniels had on them and how it all played out was great. Very underwatched film that is good for adults and kids. Plus it features my fave classical piece of music - Fur Elise.
I think I'll dig my copy out and give it another watch.

Hey Lwaves. Y'know what I reckon we probably both watched it on the same night it was aired here in England.
Did you ever see a rare British film called TIMESLIP? It was made in the 50's and it was about a guy who is found in the Thames with a radioactive beam across his body and he happens to be seven and a half minutes in front of everybody else... It wasn't at all bad, and made in that really cool 50's stark black and white style that British cinema used to do so well back then.

Then you need to find a copy of a book called Two-Handed Engine, which is a collection of stories by these two remarkable writers. It includes "Vintage Season," plus my second favorite by them, "Mimsy Were the Borogoves," which was the basis of the film The Last Mimzy, which I believe someone else mentioned up-thread.

Hi Som, yeah we probably watched the same airing. I always thought that the daughter (Ariana Richards) had potential as an actress. I'd seen her in some of those 'true life' movies before as well as some family films and she could be really convincing. Then she was cast as Lex in Jurassic Park and she disappeared from acting shortly after that.
I don't remember Timeslip the movie, but I do vaguely remeber Timslip the TV series, from the early 70s I think. We watched it at primary school and it was about a couple of kids who went through a 'time wall' to different periods. It was one of those fun educational shows they used to show kids.

Arianna Richards was in TREMORS. Did you ever see that? That is a good film.
She probably became rather fed up of being cast a 'child chased by a monster' after her performances in that and Jurassic Park... actually come to think of it she must be about 30 or so now!!!! Woah does that make me feel old....

Tremors is great. Early Kevin Bacon and the great Fred Ward. Perfect B-movie goodness. She re-appeared in Tremors 3 as well so you may be right about the chasing monsters.
It's one of those movies they used to show late night on BBC2 as part of Moviedrome which did seasons of offbeat or cult films. Remember that?
They had Tremors, Scanners, The Fury, Repo Man, Videodrome, Blue Velvet, Brazil and I think the above mentioned Somewhere In Time and Time Bandits. Plus others I can't remember now. I really miss something like that on TV these days.
