Signy has tried to bring reasonable discussion to the board with research, facts, and reason.
Apparently people here don't value that. Or even simple politeness.
I've been trying to figure out what this most resembles.
On the TOPICAL part of it, it looks like 'liberals' are just a different flavor of 'conservative', 'global warming denier', or 'creationist'. When the FACTS create cognitive dissonance with 'liberal' beliefs, 'liberals' get rid of the dissonance by dismissing the facts. And that's easy enough to document that that happens - there's too much research on the topic to not be stumbling over it on the most casual search.
But the social aspect puzzles me.
Signy is not a troll, Russian or otherwise. The real trolls are the ones who constantly, relentlessly, personally attack Signy and me, and who cooperate to gang up on us as the designated victims. It's obvious who the actual trolls are. One is a professional troll, the other is just a sadist. Why it isn't blindingly obvious to everyone is beyond me. What kind of delusion are the posters here operating under?
I've been wondering what psychology experiment mimics this dynamic.
It could be like the Stanford Prison experiment. Everyone knew going in that it was just pretend. Any authority granted to some over others was entirely specious. But that didn't stop the dynamic from happening. 'Guards' became abusive while 'prisoners' were truly victimized. Another example is Jane Elliott's Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes exercise. Completely arbitrary designations of children as superior or inferior created real bullies and victims.
Maybe Americans really are that easily propagandized.
Back when, a mere 7 days after Sept 11, 2001, GWB said bin Laden was wanted, dead or alive. The country was mobilized. Three weeks after that the the US attacked Afghanistan. But a mere 6 months after Sept 11, 2001, GWB said he wasn't 'that concerned' about bin Laden. At the time I remember thinking - surely after having been whipped into a feeding frenzy over bin Laden, then being told a mere 5 months later to forget him and focus on Hussein instead - surely the public could see that they were being stampeded.

So, I conclude, again, that propaganda works, no matter how flimsy.
And propagandist techniques, like those practiced by our trolls, also work well. I've come to believe that the many posters here, who might like to pretend to themselves they're decent people, would have been very comfortable Germans as Jews were being rounded up and killed by the millions. It looks like all it takes is a set of beliefs that leads to a dismissal of facts. And having a very small minority of people who represent the official POV claim over and over - and contrary to all evidence right in front of them - that Signy and I are trolls. Or that Jews are contamination. And presto change-o. The sadists and their victims.

They keep telling me that I'm a drunk idiot and I didn't see what you two were doing to them, so I've largely stayed out of it.
I've been sober for more than 3 months now though and I see that G puts personal insults in about 1/3rd of his posts to people he doesn't agree with and T puts them in about 3/4ths of his posts. They seem especially viscous when it comes to you and Signy, although I'm getting a little bored of them calling me stupid or a drunk.
I've seen a side of Signy that I never saw years ago when we were both posting against GWB, but one can hardly blame her when she's being ganged up on and attacked every single day in here.
Today I was called a liar, and it could be inferred from the post that this is something I regularly do. I think everyone here knows more about my personal life than they do anybody else on this board. I'm at a constant disadvantage in any conversation because when somebody disagrees with me they can just call me a drunk and feel that they won the argument. I have no reason to lie here. What would be the point of that?
You and I 1kiki don't see eye to eye on quite a bit, but it's become pretty obvious to me over the course of the last 3 months who is getting bullied around here. I think it's funny that somebody who regularly calls you and Signey Russian Trolls are going to accuse me of lying.

I'm convinced he set up the BP oil spill, fracking was his baby, the disaster in Alberta was not his fault, but he was unable to curb it. Ironically I think Trumps arctic deal might take some of the pressure off those others by lowering the price of oil, putting the earth rapers at below recovery cost. Yep, and it only seems to get worse. They cut and paste books here, none of which is read. Why, because of who they source. And, because you can't trust they haven't manipulated what they have quoted. They have been caught changing words, and even inserting paragraphs they have written themselves into the quoted text. Then they challenge you to have an honest discussion. Why do you refuse to have an honest discussion they say, funny. Many times they have made claims and provided links that we have followed. Only to find the reported text says nothing of the kind.
The reward in challenging them, is that over the years we see them exposed for what they are. They would think I am going to say Russian Trolls and liars at this point. They've heard me charge them of that many, many times over the years. While that is true, it is not the main thing that has been exposed about them. No, the main truth realized about them, is that together, they display a collective intelligence equal to that of a box of rocks.

Well said, T. Great video too. Should have been the first half of Trump's inauguration speech. The second half being what he was going to do about the first half (where, sadly, he'd still have the chance to fall flat on his face).
The meaning is lost on some people here of course. I think they just cherry pick the few lines that support their bias and ignore the rest.
