I don't believe for a second that Assad did it. This isn't a fucking James Bond movie.
But by all means. Let's get rid of all of the secular leaders in the Middle East and let ISIS take over everything.

Syrians are fighting Syrians, and a host of multi colored rebel/terrorist groups, along with Russia and the US now bombing their land, as well as ISIS building their caliphate locally.
I'd say considering all that, Syria by almost any measure, is the world's top most cluster f*ck at this time with Assad as it's president.

G, I said that ten years ago, here, when Syria was doing great. Before we started funding and arming terrorists to overthrow Assad.
Assad's approval rating was 55% before we/HRC et al, created ISIS to stage a color revolution. After early victories against ISIS, it shot up to 90%, now it's backed off somewhat, and is around 70% today. Sure, if you don't like Assad, you probably left. But the converse isn't nec. true, not everyone who left didn't like Assad. They might just dislike ISIS.
So basically, everything you said is true, I don't think the locals are heavily blaming Assad for it. Bear in mind that this isn't a color revolution where we're proposing to overthrow an extremist govt and install a moderate secular reformists. We're proposing to overthrow a left-leaning secular regime and install radical militants. A lot of people would oppose that and fight a war to stop it. A solid but not overwhelming majority of both Russians and Syrians support the Russian intervention in Syria. A slim majority of Americans but only a quarter of Syrians support US intervention in Syria.
Personally, I think the best thing we could do for Syria is get out and back off. Our presents is undoubtedly fueling support for Assad. Also, we're a popular punching bag for terrorist recruitment (join and strike down Great Satan!) and I figure any moderate fighting would be allied to the Assad side, as they could just vote their members into office, and they are, largely. Many of those are very shaky alliances, but still, they know they can be elected to an Assad govt, but not to an extremist govt. It bugs Turkey no end that Assad is considering the idea of a Kurdish state.
It's a mess, sure. And all socialist states are. But at the time it was running quite well, and my point was the fact that I held it up as an example and people accepted that was because they weren't doing a terrible job, even though they had Assad, things were fine until terrorists came along.

Sig is consistent. What ever available spin is out there, she will find it and post it. Stating Assad was popular as though Syria had free and fair elections in laughable. Anyone believing any of that is also laughable. The country was handed to Assad by his and his fathers cronies. Then during protests he began killing everyone, and here we are.
