I spent less than $5,000 last year.
The amount of money the Government spends on anything is ridiculous. It's all just made up 1's and 0's at this point. More than 90% of the US currency out there today isn't even backed up by worthless paper anymore.

Bringing back gold as currency is very appealing to Trump. If he does it, the dollar will be more than worthless paper. The reason why they stopped using the gold standard is that people who already own all the gold would end up owning everything else in the USA, too. Leaving most gold-less Americans owning nothing might be less than a good idea, but I would like Trump to try. The chaotic aftermath could be nutty & funny. Or depressing & starving. Who's to know which without trying? Trump will try anything at least once just to see what happens in order to satisfy his curiosity.

More than 1/5th of that $5,000 was property taxes. If I lived in Illinois in the same house, 15 miles west of me, I would have paid $5,000 in property taxes alone.
The 71% you speak of don't have the high cost of living that is a built in part of the American "dream".

Buying power of currency and international exchange rates are totally differnt things. A family living off of $2000 in Moldova is potentially better off than a family living off of $20000 in the US.

I agree with Ryan. I haven't gotten any foodstamps or any other assistance since my unemployment ran out. I'm not of retirement age, so the government shouldn't be subsidizing my choice not to work. And yes, it is a choice. I don't want to work another part time bullshit minimum wage job, but there are plenty of them out there. Eventually I will have to accept one of them if nothing better pops up.
If Obamacare hadn't come out I wouldn't be getting health insurance either, but because of the mandate I file for it because I'll be damned if I have to pay an extra $695 a year in taxes for not accepting free healthcare.

And this, Buss said, “creates a surplus of men” at the low end who are not going to get married.
Millions of these less well educated men are not going to get the benefits of marriage:
Married men live longer, are less likely to become alcoholic, take drugs, commit suicide, etc.
