Is Haken going to put up a "Pre-Order the Serenity Novel" on the main page of the website.

And really, I think we should all order the novel, show Universal how exited fans really are about the film by buying the first available Serenity Product...

Oh,, and thanks for posting, Krad!

If people only beleive wahts in a movie, their damn well sure beleiving Serenity.

Although Im sure consistant sales would be good and we will get them anyway. I was thinking we could maybe organize a week in which a lot of us on the boards pre order the book to see how high we can get it in the amazon charts.

Well, I am seeing a pre order in my immediate future! I would say at least a half dozen. Got to have a couple for myself and some for gifts and converting new people, right?

I am not very concerned w/ when the novel hits the shelves, so long as it does hit the shelves. Keith made a very good point in that books on the shelves in stores means possible posters and the like, and it means advertising for the BDM. I think the more we can get the name of the movie out there the more likely it is to be a big success.

I don't plan to read the novelization until after I see the BDM several times, but I will read it. Just because it is there does not mean you have to read it. Just buy it and stick it in the bookshelf at home. That is the beauty of books; you can pick them up whenever you like and read them.

I would suggest that all that can afford to do so to pick up the book, as many copies as you can to help make it a success. If the DVD sales are any indication, the success of the book will be looked at as an indication of interest in the property. If Universal sees an interest, and the potential to make money, they will move to make sequels.

Just sayin'.

any idea yet if this will also be available in eBook format? and if so which one and where to buy it?

I really prefer eBooks nowadays, have a nice older Sony Clie PDA with greyscale display and normal batteries and it is just perfect for reading eBooks in Mobipocket or eReader format. having all your novels with you on a PDA and being able to re-read them as often as you like has a big advantage to paperbacks with bad ink that sticks to your hands more than the pages and pages falling out after reading 3 times...

and you don't need no light on in the bedroom because of the backlit screen. my boyfriends often already sleeping while I still read or the other way around.

sadly most people still prefer the touchable paper and ink versions so eBooks are often late or not at all available.

I'm gonna buy this one anyway but I'd prefer the electronic format.

I intend to pre-order the book myself, and you know KRAD, if you want to meet that bogus page number of 320 pages, I am okay with that. In fact, if you felt the need to write more, I think everyone would be quite happy.

KRAD, House of Cards was the ONLY Farscape novel that was any good, so I'm glad to see you're the one writing the novelization of Serenity. I'm really looking forward to it.

BTW, are they ever going to let you publish that Farscape book I've heard rumors you finished??? Sheesh.

Pocket generally releases its books in eBook format. Assuming they do have eBook rights here -- and I don't know one way or the other if they do -- then they will almost definitely release the books in the three major eBook formats: Adobe, Microsoft Reader, and eReader (the latter for your handheld device). The former two should be available both at the publisher's web site at SimonSays.com, and also at Amazon.com and probably Powells.com. The handheld format will be available from the good folks at eReader.com.

Well, those rumors you heard weren't quite right.

To borrow a Fireflyism, here's how it was: Three Farscape novels had been published, mine, Andrew Dymond's Dark Side of the Sun, and David Bischoff's Ship of Ghosts. (Ironically, they came out in the reverse order in which they were commissioned and first drafted, for reasons way too complicated to go into here.) Tor Books wanted to do a fourth novel, written by me. I wrote a proposal for it, one for which I was able to consult with both Rockne O'Bannon (whom I met at the publication party for House of Cards) and David Kemper (whom I met at the September 2001 Creation show in New York). I sent the proposal in, but had to wait until Tor and Henson ironed out the contract for the book before it would ever be approved.

Now keep in mind, this is true for every media tie-in novel, whether it's a Star Trek novel, a Star Wars novel, a Farscape novel, a Quantum Leap novel, a Buffy novel, whatever: The author does a plot outline first, and does not write the manuscript until the licensor (Fox, Paramount, Universal, Lucasfilm, Henson, whomever) has approved that plot outline.

The problem came when Tor's lawyers and Henson's lawyers simply could not get on the same page with the contract to do the book. The process dragged on and on, to the point where it wasn't worth it for Tor to keep going with this. Then the show got cancelled, which was pretty much the final nail in the coffin.

So I never actually wrote the book. It's not likely that I ever will, to be honest. Even when Farscape was at its most popular, the books didn't sell nearly as well as we'd hoped, and with the show off the air, no publisher is likely to take the chance. That's not to say it's impossible -- I was convinced that if we ever saw Farscape again, it wouldn't be on Sci-Fi, and The Peacekeeper War made me eat those particular words, so who the heck knows?

In any case, the plot is sitting on a zip disk in my office. Maybe some day I'll get to use it (though it would need to be revised; I came up with it before the fourth season aired, and events of that season necessitate several changes to the story).

thanks for the really fast and thorough answer. I'll go and keep my eyes on eReader.com

and I really have to read at least one of your books now. I think I haven't. but then again I've read lots of StarTrek (TNG, DS9 and VOY) some years back, I'll have to take a look to see if there's one or yours already in my bookcase.

but if the Farscape one is good maybe I'll get that to shorten the time til Serenity is published.
