Now that east Aleppo was liberated/ has fallen (depending on your POV) the west and the UN have lost interest in Syria. It seems that when Syria is no longer a potential geopolitical conquest, all of that humanitarian concern kind of evaporates away, no?

Still, things are happening in Syria. There is no recorded fighting in Aleppo. Soccer returned, the local trains are running again. All of the fighting is far to the northeast ... where government territory touches ISIL territory, approaching al Bab.

The White Helmets have faded from Aleppo, to reappear in another Islamist stronghold - Wadi Barada - only to be chased out militarily (again), along with their fellow Islamists.

Quote:

The blockade of water from Wadi Barada to 5 million people in Damascus is taking an interesting turn. The U.S. and UK financed White Helmet organization seems to be directly involved in it. This increases the suspicion that the illegal blockade of water to civilians in Damascus is part of a organized campaign under U.S. command. The campaign is designed to block utilities to government held areas as revenge for the liberation of east Aleppo.

In thirsty Syria, water is a weapon.

The "rebels" which have been concentrated in Idlib Province through successive "surrender, evacuate, or die" agreements are now fighting amongst themselves. The two main surviving groups are both radical Islamist/Takfiri- one of them is Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda), the other is Ahrar al-Sham which
Quote:

aims to create an Islamic state under Sharia law, and was openly allied with Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (formerly the Al-Nusra Front, an affiliate of al-Qaeda) with which it carried out joint operations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahrar_al-Sham
Allies and friends no longer! The "moderate rebels" of the Free Syrian Army are nowhere to be found in the Idlib melee.

That's a "lesson learned" for me: When a movement turns towards violence, only the most violent survive. Something to think about.

Meanwhile, the Russians withdrew some of their forces. The reorganized government Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is busy consolidating its control and probing into al Bab (ISIL territory) and ISIL is busy attacking the SAA, so it looks like the fight against ISIL is finally engaged by the Syrian government and its allies.

In what might be the most important step, Trump and Putin apparently had a long phone call, in which "fighting terrorism" figured prominently. If Russia, the USA, and Syria can actually coordinate on fighting al Qaeda and ISIL, they stand a good chance of winning. But Saudi Arabia and Qatar are going to be pissed!, since those are the respective backers of their proxy terrorists.

And in related military events, the war on Mosul is proceeding apace. After stalling out for a few months, eastern Mosul was liberated by the US-led coalition.

Thousands tortured and hanged by Syrian government - Amnesty International:

As many as 13,000 people, most of them civilian opposition supporters, have been executed in secret at a prison in Syria, Amnesty International says.

A new report by the human rights group alleges that mass hangings took place every week at Saydnaya prison between September 2011 and December 2015.

A single government jail. The tip of the iceberg.

Nope SIG, the world is still watching. KPO's post on the hangings shows that. As for who believes Aleppo was liberated, that would be you and 1kiki. As for who believes Aleppo has fallen, that would be everyone else.

"The world"?

What would you know of "the world"?

Do you know what China thinks? South America? Africa? The people of Syria?

Of course not, and the reason why is because YOU REFUSE TO READ WHAT THE WORLD SAYS.

So fuck you and your pretense of speaking for "the world".

BTW- The so-called "report" is, like so much else in the media: fake news. The pictures which purport to validate the "mass graves" but instead show individual graves in a military cemetery just demonstrate how pathetic the information is.

Didn't you learn anything from the 16 items of "fake news" that you so-called trusted sources published and disseminated? Or the "fake news" about Iraq's so-called WMD (pushed by Judith Miller of the NYT - a trusted source) or the fake massacre in Libya, published by Human Right Watch? The fake baby-incubator story?

You should treat ALL news as "fake news" until demonstrated otherwise.

Does that include everything you just said? Because I notice that you didn't post any links to support any of your assertions. And even when you do, they are invariably to Russian state media or ideological-fringe blogs that parrot Russian state media (as well as peddling 9/11 conspiracy theories and all sorts of photo-shopped bullshit).

Good of you to warn us of 'fake news', but you are demonstrably the biggest propagator of it on this board.

SO not walking into this firestorm, just to feed a piece of information.

This is NOT a conspiracy theory, it's now established fact now, so whoever this helps, you're welcome, whoever loses point on this score, sorry, that's life.

The Turkish militants just confessed to their part in the Benghazi transfer of chemical weapons to Al Nusra for use against Assad in a false flag attack.

Their report completely backs up the story Seymour Hersh broke a couple years ago, the real story of Benghazi, that HRC used JSCO to transfer the weapons and then transfer weapons to Libyan rebels along with a list of targets that included the American consulate.

Hersh basically covers everything in his article, so there's not need for me to do so here, but I know the New Yorker originally rejected the story because they thought it would hurt Hillary, so it ran in Al Jazeera, a few on others.

The conclusion of the piece is that the gas attacks, both the initial 1500 victim attack and the total 15000, were in fact carried out from Al Nusra, with weapons surrendered to the Benghazi US consulate by Muammar Gaddafi. The weapons were transfered to Al Nusra by HRC. Al Nusra carried out the attacks, as a false flag to blame Assad and get open western support. They failed to get open support and have since joined ISIS.

Again, not arguing the point, just posting to end any argument as to the responsibility for the gas attacks, and the source of chemical weapons in Syria.

This research is based on more than 70 interviews with 20 survivors of rape, dozens of former detainees, dozens of doctors, lawyers, activists and humanitarian workers, as well as three defectors from the regime security apparatus. From March to November 2016, interviews were conducted in person in Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan, or on Skype, alongside Syrian translators.

Grim reading.

First cites, then go back and read this thread. See if you think 1kiki and SIG are trolling on behalf of Russia. Then, well I'll wait and see what you say. Whether you read the thread or not, whether you comment or not. Both will be very telling. This post by you also gives hints to what you'll do, what you'll say. Others here besides me will pick up clues about you from what you do, what you say.
