Mass graves of tortured civilians found in Aleppo – Russian MoD
Mass graves with dozens of bodies of civilians subjected to brutal torture have been discovered in Aleppo neighborhoods left by militants, the Russian Defense Ministry said Monday.
Many of the corpses were found with missing body parts, and most had gunshot wounds to the head, according to a statement by Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov.
“The completion of a uniquely large-scale humanitarian operation by the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Aleppo will destroy many of the myths that have been fed to the world by Western politicians,” Konashenkov said in a statement. “The results of only an initial survey of Aleppo neighborhoods abandoned by the so-called ‘opposition’ will shock many.”
Seven huge warehouses filled with ammunition and supplies were also discovered, Konashenkov said.

What Russia did: supplying shells and fuel, trainers, intelligence, and equipment (bought by interested oligarchs and sold via the "voentorg" i.e. military-equipment stores) and a porous border which allowed volunteers and civilian aid one way and wounded fighters and civilian refugees the other way, isn't an "invasion".
I mean, when TURKEY did that for the "rebels" in Syria ... being a proxy-seller of ISIL oil, treating wounded terrorists in their hospitals and sending volunteer foreign terrorists across the border the other way, shipping Saudi- and Qatari- purchased weapons and supplies into Syria for the "rebels" .... was THAT an "invasion" of Syria by Turkey? Heck, I thought what Turkey was doing was heinous, but even I wouldn't call it an "invasion".

Al-Nusra Terrorist Who Sent His Under-Age Kids on Suicide Mission in Syria Is Dead
A man, who reportedly sent his 7 and 9-years-old daughters to carry out a suicide bomb attack in the Syrian city of Damascus is now said to be dead himself.
Photos, showing a dead man, who is believed to be the member of the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (previously known as the al-Nusra Front) terrorist group, known as Abou Nimr, have been published online.

Earlier this month, a video, showing the same bearded man, teaching his daughters, Islam and Fatima, how to blow themselves up for the glory of Allah, was published in social networks. Another published video shows a woman, dressed in a burqa, who is believed to be the girls’ mother. The woman hugs the girls in an apparent farewell moment, while the man behind the camera talks of suicide bomb attacks for them.
Less than two weeks ago, a police station was bombed by a child suicide bomber in Midan neighborhood of Damascus. According to the Reuters news agency, citing an unnamed witness in the area of the blast, a young girl of about nine years of age entered the police station and, after asking to go to the toilet, blew herself up. According to Syrian media, the bomb was homemade and was activated with a remote control. There were no other casualties except of a police officer, who was slightly wounded.
While one of the daughters of the terrorist managed to perform her task and blew herself up at the police stations in Midan, her 9-years-old sister tried to blow herself up in a building of the Syrian Ministry of Internal Affairs, but guards didn’t allow her to do this, and the girl escaped.

Syrian War Report – December 27, 2016: Militants In Daraa Surrender To Syrian Army
On December 26 and December 27, the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Force were delivering massive airstrikes on Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) targets in the Idlib-Aleppo countryside, according to local sources. The activity of the Syrian-Russian air power in the area was synchronized with reports about deployment of a high number of Hezbollah and Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba and Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fighters for an operation in the area of Hader and Qarassi.
Mass graves of torture victims have been uncovered in the Syrian city of Aleppo, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on December 26.
“Mass burial sites of many dozens [of Syrians], who had been subjected to brutal torture and [then] murdered, have been found,” Maj. Gen. Konashenkov said. The Russian general said that the cases are being thoroughly recorded as heavy war crimes to be put to maximum publicity “so that European backers of the so-called opposition in London and Paris are well aware of who their wards actually are.”
Konashenkov added that militants of the “moderate opposition” mined in eastern Aleppo nearly everything: streets, entrances to premises, and cars.
Russian engineers are working to demine the city.
Earlier reports appeared that government forces seized large stocks of ammunition and weapons in the liberated parts of Aleppo: missiles, mortar shells, assault rifles, various kind of munitions and humanitarian aid.
Tensions among various militant factions on more time erupted in the province of Idlib where Jabhat Fatah al-Sham raided houses and arrested a number of Liwa Suqur al-Jabal militants that had returned to Idlib after participation in the Turkey-led Operation Euphrates Shield in northern Aleppo. The event took place in Kansafra and followed sporadic reports that Liwa Suqur al-Jabal had been redeploying fighters to Idlib to oppose the expected government offensive in the area.
Kurdish YPG forces have been continuing to develop the momentum against ISIS in the province of Raqqah. The YPG is working to secure the area north of the Tabqa Dam, controlled by ISIS. When it’s done, Kurdish forces will likely attempt to retake this strategic site from the terrorist group. Especially heavy clashes are now ongoing in the area of Jabar.
A high number of militants has laid down arms and joined the reconciliation process with the Syrian government in the province of Daraa. The event took place in the government-held town of al-Sanamyen north of the provincial capital. The total numbers of Free Syrian Army members that had laid their arms and took the amnesty were estimated from 150 to 250. Local sources argue that this was a prelude to a wider reconciliation agreement in the province that will allow government forces to set control over all parts over the city of Daraa.

Russian sappers sweep Aleppo for mines, discovering shells made in US, Germany
Russian bomb disposal teams are continuing to sweep schools and mosques of Aleppo for booby-traps, mines and munitions after they were wrested from rebel control. Recovered explosives come from various parts of the world, including the US and Germany.
Since starting their mine-swiping mission in the Syrian city three weeks ago, the sappers have cleared 966 hectares, the Russian Syrian Reconciliation Center reported on Wednesday. They reported 2,149 building in and near Aleppo as safe, including 44 schools, 38 mosques, 10 medical facilities and other crucial civilian infrastructure. They also swept 350km of roads in the area for mines, the report said.
The teams discovered and defused some 14,700 dangerous items, including 6,700 IEDs. The munitions discovered in stockpiles left behind by various armed groups ranged from small arms rounds and hand grenades all the way up to rockets meant for multiple-rocket launchers.
Footage of the ongoing demining operation released by the Russian Defense Ministry showed crates full of various munitions; some of them marked “Produced in Yugoslavia by Ordnance Corps United States Army.”
“The munitions we found were German, American, Bulgarian... The amount they had was somewhat disconcerting,” Maj. Ivan Gromov, a bomb disposal squad leader said.
The Russian military in Aleppo are assisting with restoring normal life in the city after four years of hostilities. In addition to disposing of explosives, they help with deliveries of humanitarian aid and restoring utilities. A Russian military police unit was deployed to Aleppo to preserve order and prevent possible abuses.

The YPG, along with other Kurdish militias, controls a large area of northern Syria up the Turkish border. It is regarded by Turkey as a terrorist organisation and an extension of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
However, the ceasefire will take in the rebel-held eastern Ghouta area near Damascus, which had been a sticking-point in negotiations.
The HNC, the umbrella group representing Syria's political and armed opposition factions, said that, because of the rebels' limited resources against government forces and their factional allies, it was "not possible to continue" the fight.
Earlier this month, Moscow and Ankara negotiated a ceasefire in Syria's second city, Aleppo, that led to tens of thousands of rebel fighters and civilians being evacuated from an enclave besieged by government forces.

Now, my personal opinion is: OH NO! NOT ANOTHER CEASEFIRE! All previous cease-fires were used by the various "rebel" (i.e. terrorist proxy) groups to regroup and re-arm. Every one has been a BIG mistake. And history shows that the most durable post civil war/ proxy war peace comes from a decisive military victory, not a stalemate (frozen conflict) or "negotiated" end. But considering that Turkey was a big terrorist supplier, maybe with THIS cease-fire Turkey will close its border with Syria and turn off the tap of foreign terrorists, arms, and trade. I hope. I imagine that the Russians will keep a close eye on that border.
Some guesses as to what this means for the future:
Since this cease-fire excludes al Nusra, ISIL, and their various "affiliated" groups, I guess this will be another (successive) winnowing of "sheep" from "goats". With each "pocket" that was closed: Daraya, Hama, Aleppo, Ghouta, Al-Tayyiba, Zaakiya, Al-Dayrkhabiyya. Mu'adhdhamiyya etc the Syrian offer has been the same: Lay down your arms (except rifles, which everyone is allowed to keep) and join the reconciliation, or take a bus ride to Idlib province. By now, Idlib must be chock-o-block full of foreign terrorists and unregenerant Syrian Sunni extremists/ war criminals.
"Why Idlib?" I've asked my astute military-minded friends, and the answer is that it is bordered by Turkey (to the north), Aleppo Province (to the east) and Latakia Province (to the west) and Tartus (the the southwest) is very close-by. The Russians have an airbase in Khmeimim, Latakia, and they lease a naval base in Tartus, Tartus. And of course, there is a huge concentration of government forces in Aleppo, to the east. It seems to me that this cease-fire might have been rammed through rather quickly to prevent any further USA involvement in Syria. While Trump's proposal sounds nice to Americans (sounds good to me anyway!) it looks like it doesn't sound so good to the Russians, or the Syrians. Or even the Turks.
