It's why I've decided to look for a local job working at an amimal shelter Wish.
If I start working part time again, even 20 hours a week, I get $198 a month tax free in food stamps. If I get food stamps, I can go to AT&T and get a 12MB/PS connection for $10 a month instead of the $50 I'm paying Comcast. I already got rid of my $60/mo cell phone and pay $100 every 5 years for Magic Jack. Come November 1st, I get to apply for an eventual nearly $400 "gas credit" on my energy bills.
In the mean time, since I'm unemployed now, my HIP is costing me $1/mo.
THIS is a HUGE reason why the "Inner City" problem will never be fixed Wish.
I haven't worked a single day in the last 20 or so months. As a single guy, if I found a job making 30k a year, I would lose almost all of the foodstamps, I wouldn't get any energy assistance and my co-pay for healthcare after subsidies would be 1/6th of my yearly pay. That means any minimum wage job I'm working, at least 2 months of my work there every week in those 2 months did nothing but pay for my health insurance.
In the mean time, I'm not working and my health insurance costs me $1 fucking dollar per month.
Why make 30k a year?
I'm just looking for a job mopping up dog shit at an animal shelter now.
That "Precipice" is WAY too FUCKING low for anybody from the depths to want to crawl out of them unless they're all of the sudden super YouTube or otherwise famous.
In the mean time, I have absolutely zero desire and zero incentive to rise above my current position.

My Step Dad is Mexican. He owns his own business that is currently thriving but has had its share of ups and downs. He was the youngest, by 20 years, of a Literal cotton picker, and they grew up in a fucking Train Boxcar in Illinois. HIs family was always nice to me but we didn't hang out with them much. Found out later that somehow "We/we" made them feel like "second class citizens".
My Step Dad's Brother's Wife made REAL Tacos and we all watched Wrestlemania (back when Undertaker was still a thing). I was the oldest brother at the time and I was 9 years old. My future Step Dad was teaching me Kenpo, a martial arte.
Everyone there seemed real nice to me and I liked them. But my Step Dad was teh youngest in the family by decades and my mom was the 2nd "White" woman he married. He speaks better English than most of my friends in school.
Their hatred for him was racist hatred.
I really liked all of them.

I really feel that I have to come out a 2nd time and speak up for my Uncle Bob.
I know in the video shown he wasn't the most Charismatic Person Ever Born, but that's probably why he was my favorite uncle growing up. He was the only Uncle I had who said "Fuck the Norm" wihout ever swearing about it. I was a HUGE fan of SONY products in the late 90s, but he pointed out the question "Why?" He's always been Mildly OKAY with everything. If you've ever watched "Curb Your Enthusasm", that's my Uncle, although he's successful enough that he can coast on the Good things without ever having to dwell on the bad things.
His youngest son, who thought I was a God when I used to toss him around and do push ups with him sitting on my back in the 90s is a Washington politician now. His oldest son is wondering what his future holds, but he's held several political positions already and even ran for mayor in a prominant town. He only got 11% in a 4 way race, but he was only 25 years old and unmarried and not the incumbent when he did so.
His insight is the reason why I know that outside of HUGE COLLEGE TOWNS with nothing outside of campus are drug dens for Meth these days. Kids at college don't do the meth, so it's very rarely a college problem. It's a "Townie" problem.

There are 46.5 million Americans (23 million households) on food stamps.
For starters, the majority of food stamp recipients are white. Data from the USDA released in 2013 showed a breakdown of SNAP recipients:
40.2% are white
25.7% are black
10.3% are Hispanic
2.1% are Asian
1.2% are Native American
According to a USDA report of the 2012 fiscal year, 82% of SNAP recipients were in poverty. That same report found that nearly 45% of the food stamp recipients were children under the age of 18, which according to NBC News is around 20 million children. At some point of their lives half of U.S. children will be fed with food stamps.
It also found that 9% of recipients were elderly (over 60 years old) and 10% were non-elderly disabled adults (some of which, I believe, are veterans).
For those adults who are not disabled, without children, and are in between the ages of 18-49, SNAP benefits are very restricted.
"Nondisabled nonelderly adults living in households without children can receive benefits only if they work or participate in qualifying work-related
activities," the USDA explains. "With certain exceptions, those who do not meet these work requirements are restricted to 3 months of SNAP benefits in any 36-month period."

My problem with Mexicans is they come here and breed and breed to keep getting benefits. They don't become a part of society. They take a lot of the money they get and send it back to Mexico, and now they get our JOBS too? I don't really care if someone NEEDS assistance, but rewarding people for playing the system HAS GOT TO STOP.
