thank you for your reply...and yes, i will at some point.. DVD /itunes release will watch the movie..but no matter how illuminating it may be my mind has long been made up when it comes to the horror of a hillary presidency.

but given either candidate...my real curiosity, my real concern, is the hearts and minds of good folks...especially those that seem to have found something special in this little world of fireflies

and I get that the TV series was pushed out there at a time when there was a Bush in the Oval..but the series rings just as true with obama....and yet I've wondered if Joss would have created the stories during these last 8 years.

anyway...regardless of the outcome.. I do believe that there will soon come a day when good men and women...fathers/mothers, upstanding business folks, church going, loving, holding to moral standards of just plain decency...will be branded as bad guys..enemies of the state...and then come a day, harder for naughty folks like us to sneak about.

Did you think there were any current day corollaries in Firefly? Any anecdotes reflecting on the existing political environment of the time?

I had thought that day already came and went.

# 1 movie of its kind ever, as I hear it.

Must be pretty darn good.

I do...not saying Joss wasn't correct in the motivation of his story telling during the Bush Admin..or even given the state of many world leaders at that time...again..not here to defend a Bush or a Trump...this goes far deeper than the figureheads in office at any given cycle...and i usually don't get into much political discussion on board..never seems to flow well from my brainpan through my keyboard...and responses can get out of hand..better to just enjoy the aspects of being a Firefly fan...it's just that all the campaign hype out there, kinda raises my brow on where the thinking is of our Browncoats.
I know we all hear different things..for me.. i hear hillary and my alarm bells are clanging..others hear Trump and they are ready to bang their heads against the cleat side of their gold shoes. anyway..think i'll just head over to Walmart and buy another copy of the firefly TV series DVD set..just to mess with the analytics of their buying system... I love that there is always still a copy on that shelf...

Can you name one? This is not RWED Forum, so you should be able to point out your Firefly observation without too much problem. I am interested to hear, and don't recall hearing of one before.

and this is 'forum typing' so I may misunderstand..

but off the top of my head while I choke down some lunch at my desk..

one running theme with River...the concept of the Alliance looking to change our thinking, to make us "better" make us more compliant on one hand...culminated in his speech on serenity just after witnessing Miranda and prepping for the fight.

my work brings me into the state of NC..where the new mayor this year, faced with so many opportunities and challenges for the city...growth, commerce, law enforcement...her first real effort was to bipass the state legal system and impose a transgender bathroom "law". Now I'm an old guy, so I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how and why we want to base laws around how someone might be "feeling"...cause right now folks seem happy to support that one poor but enlightened soul who feels like...oh never mind..point is...do we then force restaurants to have a seperate dining solution so that folks with eating disorders don't have to sit where they can see other people eating mashed potatoes?? ..where does it stop when a powerful govt starts making laws for the exceptions?

how bout the episode "safe"..it looked like it was targeting those crazy church cult christian folks who in their primitive minds believed in witches, etc...my favorite lines btw are at the end of that one.. as Zoe and Mal are walking into town "what's that make us?.. Big Damn heros...ain't we just... " and yet today, those same backwards cultist exist but our govt is more concerned with enabling sharia law thinking while looking to continue to punish other religions

Heart of Gold - depicts a localized aristocratic ruler who abuses, leverages betrayal, and will kill those who defy...I could impose Hillary's face on the Ranch Burgess character with her (yes I believe) history of dealing with Bill's women issues, her own men issues (yes Chelsea certainy does look like ol Hubble)

I love my Firefly and could probably do this for each and every episode and the movie..not sure that folks would agree with my take on em...but in my eyes, it just seems that the overall flavor and theme of the series holds very true today..

I agree these obviously apply today, with Libtards running amok and emulating The Alliance of Domination. But I was asking about Bush-centric views. Sorry if I was unclear.

You finally did it. I ignored your Hillary's "constant lies and i honestly believe, there is blood on her hands....but I've already said too much, as this now will turn into a bash the forum guy for daring to attack she who would be queen..." I'm not ignoring this one:

Abraham Lincoln was the very essence of evil to slave-owners before he was inaugurated. He had to leave a train going to Washington DC for his swearing in ceremony to avoid Southerners who would stop it to assassinate him. And sore-losers did kill him. But enough time has passed that most people believe Lincoln was not the Hillary-monster that slave-owners claimed even thought a million died in a War to protect the Constitutional property rights of the Southern planter class. In their opinion that war was all Lincoln’s fault. Even many Northerners were opposed to Lincoln before the War. Was popular opinion correct in 1860 when Lincoln received only 38.9% of the popular vote, that he should not be President?

In 1864, 45% of the voters wanted Lincoln replaced, and that was after most, but not all, slave-owners were denied a vote and Lincoln had changed Vice Presidents to Andrew Johnson, who was against emancipation, the very opposite of what Lincoln is known for. Lincoln even changed the party name to "National Union Party" to get votes from War Democrats and Border State Unionists who would not vote for the "Republican Party". Lincoln was compromising with his opponents but it still did not make him popular. Did that make Lincoln wrong for those times? He was being called a murderer with blood on his hands by many Northerners who felt themselves to be vastly morally superior to the White House Ape, Abe Lincoln. Were they correct about Lincoln? Or was their judgment delusional, with no real understanding that the actual Lincoln was not a Hillary-monster? I forgot to mention that there is talk of assassinating Hillary, so she better not take a train to DC as per Lincoln.

That's too bad. You could find it illuminating, regardless of your political bent.

but i'm popping in on this thread really out of the most honest of curiosity.

Please don't turn this into a Trump thing.. I'm asking this specifically about the nature of Brown Coats...when i first saw Firefly..it really hit home with me, the concept of a few folks of very different stripes, coming together , living out on the edge, pretty sparse lifestyle, but it was because they resented and wanted little part of those who would overlord, tell them how to think, etc...we all know the story.

so here we are pressed with Hillary..I swear she represents so many aspects of the very nature that BrownCoats seek to avoid...Wall street, pay to play with the Saudis and others, disdain for so many , constant lies and i honestly believe, there is blood on her hands....but I've already said too much, as this now will turn into a bash the forum guy for daring to attack she who would be queen...scarier even is the media and others who were determined to protect and promote her long before there was a Trump at the podium...
so please, and i sincerely mean this...in the spirit of Brown Coats...how could we trust, support, endorse, defend Clinton...cause the only thing I see coming out of this will be the need to put the coat back on in
a few short years.

I agree with you, and one thing I had assumed about Browncoats was some amount of cameraderie about being under the thumb of the alliance, and thus leaning a bit more towards freedom, liberty, smaller government, etc. It can be a rude awakening when those who claim to be for these things are so blindly and adamantly against them such that they flock to the Racist party of Democrats(aka Alliance), founded upon slavery, built upon slavery and segregation, lynching and corruption, and avoid the Party of Freedom, Liberty, and Emancipation (aka Browncoats).

Okay Old Guy, I have a few questions for you regarding your take on Firefly and how it relates to today's woes, politically speaking:

1- On religion, as you state: "looked like it was targeting those crazy church cult christian folks who in their primitive minds believed in witches, etc..."

Good point. The hypocrisy of religion and those who follow was, I believe,
part of "Safe's" message. But I'm not sure what Sharia Law is to make a further and intelligent comment. Their point, as I see it, was exactly that
they don't want to be told what to do by any religion. How to behave, what to wear, whether or not to have children. As Mal would say, "go about your business, as long as it don't affect me and mine." Freedom of choice, but always with the mind that Freedom of Religion is good as long as......etc.

From what I have read and learned over the years, the government wants to keep their hands to themselves - separation of church and state - but protect those don't believe as you or I. Freedom of the individual as well
as the group.

Case in point: A certain religion wants to tell people, in particular women,
whether they should have a baby or not. Millions of people believe this way.
But there are millions who don't. According to Firefly lore: the government
doesn't have the right to tell you, why should a religion have that right?

Mal to Book: "You are welcome here. God ain't."

So how is it that the government is "punishing" other religions? and, What is Sharia Law? Does the government favor one religion over another? Should a God-fearing Christian have the right to tell another how to live their life?
Should a Christian kill to defend their religious beliefs? Do you really believe, that in this country, Sharia Law could ever survive, much less
thrive?

HoG - Ranch Burgess appears to me to be more like the Big Blowhard Donald J. Drumpf. Aristocrat, bullshit artist, bully, woman-hater, arrogant piece of crap. But, that's just me.

For extra added bonus: The Alliance is more like the Repubs. Ya know, do
nothing and know nothing. You do know that our BDH are leaning a bit to the left, don't you? Subliminal messages aside, who owns all the media. Go ahead,
take a good look. I'll wait................

From one old guy to another.
