The director, Andrew Wakefield, published a scientific paper in 1998 on the same topic as this documentary. Following many years of reviews and research, the outcomes described in the paper could not be reproduced, and it emerged that Wakefield had falsified and altered the data in the study, as well have having a series of financial conflicts of interest which were not declared in the paper. Wakefield was accused of carrying out unnecessary and unethical invasive procedures on autistic children and acting without ethical approval from the relevant authorities. After an investigation by the British Medical Council, 36 charges against him were upheld and he was struck off the medical register and permanently banned from practising medicine in the UK (and by extension the EU).

I have a grand nephew who has been diagnosed with a mild case of autism. A
beautiful kid who loves his mom and dad, and has trouble sleeping, among other
things. So this is something I don't take lightly. Regardless of politics, which
is what this is all about, there are human beings out there affected by this in some form. This so-called film should be seen, warts and all, and discussed in a forum setting so as to allow for a real-time determination.

Removing a movie from a film festival can hardly be called "censoring". The film- has it been officially banned by the government?
So, aside from the fact that the "facts" that the film presents are simply wrong, that the producer is an admitted fraud who cooked data to make his point, that the film has not been "banned" - merely excluded from a film festival, which is certainly within the rights of the festival organizers - and that nobody could possibly be "pro autism" ... what's wrong with the original post? You guys are being so picky!
The only thing that will settle the issue and stop the conspiracy theories will be when the cause(s) of autism is(are) finally sussed out, at least in broad scope, and a strategy found to deal with it. We saw the same thing with the AIDS epidemic: Even AFTER the retrovirus had been found there were still diehard conspiracists who insisted that the virus was just an adventitious finding. But once medications and prevention strategies, based on the retroviral hypothesis, began to be successful the conspiracy theorists died out. (Maybe literally.)
It may be very much like diabetes: an unfortunate interaction of heredity and modern lifestyle. While there are still many details to work out with Type II diabetes, one good strategy is to eat less and exercise more.
