If he was running as an independent he might have pulled a Ross Perot and split a party's vote, resulting in that party's loss. But he's running in a primary as a democrat which I think results in a different dynamic. Only one democrat can emerge as winner. And that person will be facing only one other serious contender.

The only dynamic here is Bernard Sanders was born on September 8, 1941 and is age 74. He is too damn old to be President. His die-hard supporters will get angry when their old-man is not the Democratic Party's nominee. They will decide to either not vote or they will vote for anybody other than the Democrat or the Republican nominees. The result will be that the Republicans win.

That is how Bernie can play the same role as Ralph Nader did in 2000. And without Bernie even running as a third party candidate. I really dread Donald Trump and Ted Cruz winning by a fraction of a percent in the popular vote.

SECOND, as far as Sanders -supporters staying away in droves ... yanno, the only pressure that the voters have on the candidates and the parties that nominate them is the power to withdraw their support/vote. If that thought keeps the Democratic party leadership up at night, good! It should! The Democratic Party was smacked once by Nader*. Maybe they need to be smacked again. Maybe they need to dissolve altogether.

So it put forward a candidate who promised us the sun, the moon, and the stars and then did bupkis (Obama). If you don't believe me, look at where we are now! The NSA has been -and still is - snooping on everyone, and they have the huge computer facility in Utah to prove it! Without using USA troops, the Obama administration (thanks mainly to Hillary and her fellow-neocons in the State Department) have managed to destabilize two MORE nations. The rich are richer than ever, but the economy (as measured by the participation rate, not the incredibly phonied-up unemployment rate) is stalled, and instead of universal affordable healthcare we all got shoved into the maw to feed the private insurers. And finally, Obama ... as another one of his legacies ... is pushing two more "free trade" agreements.

Hillary is a tremendously corrupt candidate. The Democratic Party might want to SERIOUSLY start representing the middle class if they want to get the vote. There is little policy difference, overall, between Hillary and whatever candidate the Republicans put up. I've already decided to vote third-party.

As far as Sander being "too old" ... Hillary was born 1947 and she's had a stroke. And Biden was born in 1942, but that didn't keep him from being floated as a possible Hillary-substitute. So I guess that's why we have Vice-Presidents!

Both of the "bigger" official Dem candidates are pretty tottery, and Hillary is a corrupt neocon. Of the two, I'd rather see a tottery honest person on the ticket than a tottery corrupt one.

*BTW- Bush didn't win the vote, it was handed to him electronically and by the Supreme Court. There is solid evidence that Florida was a test case, and the six swing states after that were also electronically stolen. Those are facts that even the Democratic Party would like to see buried, but they are stubbornly there, no matter if TPTB make them disappear from history.

Republicans relentlessly pursue their goals of being elected. That is why they control more than half of all elected offices and why they have a 50/50 chance of winning the Presidency one more time. And the Republicans manage to keep winning in thousands and thousands of elections despite an anti-political political ethos producing elected leaders of jaw-dropping incompetence who do not believe in government and so do not respect it.

On the other hand, the Democrats are remarkably different from the Republicans in pursuing election. Once elected, Hillary or Bernie or Biden could be competent, unlike any Republican, but they also are sickly old people. They look like they will die from ill health at the first political crisis. Any one of them could be FDR in his fourth term: dead man walking.

For all you who don't know, FDR was 63 when he died. He hid his serious illnesses from the first election to the last. As did JFK, dead at 46. As did LBJ, dead at 64. Seems to me like a Democratic Party tradition.

As for Bill Clinton living to the end of Hillary's second term? I give it a 1% chance. That's better than nothing.

"Mr. Nader, running as the Green Party nominee (in 2000 ...)" It's that third party effect draining Democratic votes I was talking about. And that's exactly happened in 2000. I truly don't understand how 'Bernie can play the same role as Ralph Nader did in 2000' when he's not a third party candidate like Nader was.
