Author's Note: My boredness in school pays off in another fic!

All was quiet on Serenity , for it being night. The only person awake was Jayne. He never slept right away, anyway. He would always find something to amuse him for the time being. Lifting small weights and polishing his favorite knives and guns were his favorite things to do. Tonight, he finished polishing early, and he was hungry. That didn’t really surprise him though. If he walked upstairs and back down again, he’d would’ve worked up an appetite. Jayne was a big boy and he needed to be sustained often.

Doing his version of quiet, he tip-toed downstairs to make himself some grub. All of tonight’s dinner had been devoured and all that was left were a can of corn, a tomato, and a couple slices of bread.

I’ll make it work…

The clatter of pots and pans Jayne pulled out happened to wake River. She never was a heavy sleeper and tonight, coincidentally, like Jayne, she wasn’t finding sleep easily either. So she decided to get up and find out what the large array of loud noises were, that were coming from the dining area.

Within a matter of minutes, Jayne had put together a weak meal that suited his hunger just fine. Dropping down in a seat, he snatched a fork and began to vacuum up what was in front of him.

Poking her head from out the corner, she saw Jayne eating some concoction of vegetables. Turning around wouldn’t be any fun, so she thought up the idea of asking Jayne one of the simplest questions he could never answer to amuse herself long enough until she tired.

Slipping in the room, behind Jayne, without making the slightest sound, she lingered behind him until she felt the timing was just right.

“Jayne, why is the sky blue?”
