This has gone through more drafts than I want to admit. It was amazingly hard for me to write, as I really don't do happy and sappy well. I really prefer to write angst. But, I'm tired of looking at it, and if I post it, I won't feel inclined to continue editing.
Yes, its in two parts. I'm not quite so nice as to give you a 26 page story to read all in one sitting.

“Mei mei, you look beautiful.” Inara smiled widely as Kaylee paced nervously around the spacious suite.
She wore a red robe with gold dragons embroidered along the cuff and hem, a wardrobe tradition dating back to Earth-That-Was that Inara felt should be observed. It dusted gently across the floor as Kaylee paced around the room.
“Where’s the Cap’n. Ain’t he supposed ta be here?” Kaylee twisted her hands nervously.
Inara smiled knowingly. “He’ll be here soon. He’s probably had to sedate Simon by now.”

I was picturing Kaylee's mom in the same way, that made me happy.

Despite what Leiasky says, this story was all her (okay, mostly her, some me!) Just kidding!
You rock girl! You've got the sap down, you just don't want to admit it. And you still have some great angst with River. The next part should make us all squeal with even more delight!
I loved Mal & Inara's quiet little moment, and Kaylee's parents, how sweet was that!!
And poor River. :( But good for her that she could be happy spoiling any potential nieces and nephews that Simon and Kaylee may have.

Yes, they are in part 2. It was the absolute hardest piece of writing I think I've ever done. They were re-written so many times, I've lost count. Hopefully, they will meet with approval, or at least, not disgust.
Oh don't worry, River's angst spills over to everyone else very soon now . . .
River...oh....the angst for such a person just makes my heart ache for her:( Though I would have thought Simon aware of her damaged physiology, as he has a copy of the holo-imager scan from "Ariel"...unless he solely focused on the neurological aspects of the scan.
I am holding my breath till we get more, Leiasky....I am gonna turn blue;)

Brilliant as always! I love the emotion, the characterization.
I love that you've encorporated River and her feelings into this, as well as some Mal and Inara. Seeing the story played out from their sides, as well as Simon and Kaylee's, makes it that much more real.
I definitely can't wait to read the second part of it!

Very descriptive chapter, I liked the visuals.
