Disclaimer: This story is not meant to infringe on the copyright of any person or company related to the trademarked characters and situations depicted in the Serenity movie or Firefly series. I make no money from this. Only done for fun – and a desperate craving to have more stories told about this wonderful ‘verse Joss Whedon created.

Additional Note:

I have made it more ambiguous as to what language was used as in the original posting of this story it was pointed out to me that everyone should know both English and Chinese in the Firefly 'verse.

Jayne followed Mal into the cargo bay, arranging his weapons on his belt. “We still got ‘nuff coin for months thanks to the doc’s folks. Why we gotta work?”

Mal turned and glared at Jayne as Zoe, followed by Simon, Kaylee and River walked into the cargo bay. “’Cause I don’t take charity. That money belongs to Simon and River.”

“And I recall giving it to you to split with the crew,” Simon said, folding his arms and staring at Mal. He had kept very little of the money for himself, insisting that the entire crew deserved to split it. He had the heirlooms his mother had given to him in those last few frantic minutes. Those were worth more to him than the money.

“See!” Jayne waved his arm toward Simon.

“That money won’t last forever. Good to take jobs when they come up.” Kaylee laced her arm through Simon’s and smiled at Jayne. It hadn’t taken too long after their little spat for her to return to her normal cheery self. Of c

I can't wait to see what the granddaughter will do to try and win Simon and how kaylee will react to them. Also I wounder what medication River took from the infirmary and his bunk? Could it be the birth control that she's taken?

River REALLY wants to be an aunt, doesn't she.....

As always, great stuff....I really want to found out what happens at that banquet. Is Kaylee nervous about getting all formal at everything, or is she still just shiny? At least at a chinese banquet, you don't have to worry about what kind of fork to use....

Oooh! A girl fight!

I put my money on Kaylee. She may not be all cultured, but she'll booby-trap your chair.

No fight. No dinner. No banquet. Sorry folks, that wasn't the point of this story . . . Though, the events of the banquet, at some point, will be told in upcoming stories.

There is meddling happening on a few sides here and it will become clearer as the next few stories unfold.

River wants desperately to be an aunt, but there is another reason for her tampering that is FAR more important.

INTERESTING!!! I'm all intrigued. More!!!!

Very shiny but in Firefly they all speak Chinese and English, rather than just the odd word as this story states. Apart from that a good tale well told but oh my, I am worried about River. That sad look on her face as she sorts through medicines, what is she up to? I just hope our little albatross is not planning to hurt herself. Ali D :~)

OMG!!! she got the contraceptive shots bwahahahahahahahaha omg I love River.

Oh and the rest of the story is interesting too :-D 20 outta 10 :)

Uh....I don't think those meds were 26th century contraceptives, even before our beloved author stated there were not.

Now, swiping the contraceptives would be something River-like, yeah, but I get the notion from how Leiasky described River's theft and disposal that she's ditching something like the reserve anti-psychotics or sedatives...like she's aware of a future fit that would have seen Simon drugging her to the gills or something.

Can't wait for more....;)

Gee, should I tell you all what they were? I thought it was pretty obvious based on what's gone on in previous stories, but, then, I know what's going to happen in the future. . .

Amdobel- I thought I had read somewhere, or heard someone mention on one of the commentaries that not everyone spoke both languages. If I find something that says to the contrary, I will definitely edit this story accordingly.

>like she's aware of a future

Yes. She is.

Wouldn't the smart move have been for Simon to show up and dinner, and say "this is the love of my life. Her name is Inara."

She obviously knows what the old lady expects, and she won't blow a fuse when the granddaughter maks a pass.

I love your ability to write these insular stories, but still have them flow so well within your timeline. And I love the idea of Simon having to gracefully bow out of a set-up date!

And River is just being mischievious, but she has her brother's best interests at heart, right?

I would love to see the dinner, where Simon is trying to get out of being pushed into polygamy:D! And I love that Simon is the one to get them out of trouble, cause of the smarts!!! Pretty boys with brains, yep, gotta love them!
Thursday, 13 April 2006 13:32
Oh, what did River do?
Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:25
Mal grinned at her and she felt her knees go weak. “Then you’d have to provide mouth to mouth in order to resessitate me”

Very good Mal/Inara interaction.

Yay for River taking the contraceptives, Simon and Kaylee would make some pretty babies.
