Firefly: "Wings"

Disclaimer: If I weren't just a poor college student and could finance the series myself, I would, but I can't. So all I can do is just play around in Joss Whedon's 'verse. Also, I don't know a lick of Chinese so I haven't bothered to put the translations because they're probably horribly wrong. If it were Japanese or Latin, well, that'd be another story...

"How're we doin', little one?" asked Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds on the bridge of his Firefly-class transport, Serenity. He stood, braced up against the upper bulkhead in his button down shirt and suspenders, and stared at the glimmering edge of a white planet called Persephone. He could easily recall a similar scenerio play out, but only it'd been Wash in his pilot's chair and Zoe cradled next to him. It wasn't Wash seated to his right any longer. River had taken up the temporary position of pilot, and it was Simon, her brother, who stood behind her. Kaylee, Zoe and Jayne were also crammed into the rather compact bridge, each eager for a peak at the closest damn thing to civilization they'd come to in the last three months.

Reavers had exploded out of their expanse of dead space ever since the broadwave. The Alliance, in a desperate effort to keep another civil war from exploding in the outer systems, had thrown a good bulk of their fleet into exterminating the Reaver menace. Instead of the rectifying the situation, it only seemed to be a band-aid on an amputated limb. The people of the outer systems never had much love for the Alliance, and they sure as hell never considered them angels on high. More than anything, the belated rescue aggrivated most fol

Oh. My. God.

You aren't, by any chance, Joss Whedon in disguise, are you?

I'm attempting to compose a compliment that will adequately convey just how absolutely AWESOME this story is. Unfortunately, my limited vocabulary is insufficient to the task.

So, I'll just say that I'm heartily anticipating the next story in this series. Sparks between our two resident Readers? Hands-of-blue boys gumming up the works? Jayne acting like a man-ape-gone-wrong thing? BRING IT ON! :) :) :)

Addendum to previous comment:

Okay, I just checked the fanfic list, and I find that you've posted FOUR episodes of this thing at once.

And here I thought I'd be able to get to sleep before midnight. Sheesh.

Buddy, I want to kidnap your muse. I will feed it chocolate truffles and give it pedicures on a daily basis.

Wait, I can't kidnap a muse. That might make it cranky. Maybe you could charge hourly rates?

I wish I was Joss Whedon in disguise. Think of the brilliance! The wit! The money! Haha, but wow, thanks for that comment.

Chocolate truffles and pedicures... I should try that. Maybe if I did, it would stay around longer. I don't know if it's really mine to rent out, but you could try borrowing it.

Wow seems a little bit of an understatement at this juncture. I wish I had time to read episode 2 before my 3 hour chemistry lab but I know that I don't.

Hugely impressed with this. It's complex, well planned with good original characters and a great storyline.

Be nice to your muse because we fanfic writers can be quite demanding.

Thanks,
Taya

Thanks for the comments!

Three hour chem lab...yeesh. I had those for a semester. Not my most favorite semester.

I spent three days reading this story alone...and now I have three more to read?

Wow.

It was awesome! So much like how an actual second seasion premere should go! I have a feeling I'm gonna become as attached to Kyo as I was to my friend K's character Bob a long time ago...Kyo's awesome! and seems to fit in pretty well.

And Whisper? wow. That's interesting. I'm looking foward to some fun Whisper/Jayne interactions.

I really enjoyed this tale but would have liked to have seen more of the back story with Kyo, Mal and Zoe come out. I think Mal is going to have a very interesting time with Inara, just hope he's got the stamina. Ali D :~)

I do have more Whisper/Jayne interactions planned down the line...way, way down the line...

And I would've liked to have written more back story of the trio, but I couldn't get too carried away in this episode. I like writing war Mal though. His speeches and energy is just great.

And Mal and Inara should have should have an interesting time if I can ever get around to writing more scenes. I have the most difficult time with Inara.

THAT WAS A GOOD PILOT(both the episode and Kyo, how do you pronounce his name?) I liked it alot and have to agree on the "Hear me, baby? Hold together," line. I own a wooden, 15 foot skiff that I mainly use for fishing. I swear, when you put the 9.9HP outboard on it, and take off at full throttle, I feel like she'll fall apart, but she never does, just goes to show that Mal, Han, and Wash were right, Love keeps here in the air(for me, on the water)when she otta fall, You can know all the math in the verse, but if you take out a boat that you don't love, she won't hold together.
