He had only a few choices. One, he could continue on, two, he could go back for the weapons. Or three, he could abandon this whole crusade, and surrender. He knew he would never surrender. That left going on, or retrieving the weapons. Their former hideout was crawling with Alliance, so the weapons were out of his reach. That left continuing on.
“Kelly, you still have the locations of the AA sites?” asked Mal.
“Yeah, I got them.”
“Then, let’s move out. Our only chance is to kill the SAM sites. Otherwise we’ll have no choice to turn ourselves in.” Suddenly, the radio crackled to life.
“Sergeant Reynolds. If you can hear me, try to get your team to destroy the central SAM site. It’s the one that sends the data to the others. Take it down, and the network is out. We have to evacuate this position, so we can’t transmit. Fleet command is sending down the rest of the regiment in an hour. If you can’t take down the SAM sites, we have lost the planet. If the SAM sites are gone, we have to abandon you. Repeat, we--” The radio went dead at that moment.
“Kelly, you know where the central site is?” asked Mal.
“Yeah, about two klicks from here. It’s the one where the most data packets are coming from.” Said Kelly.
“Then let’s hoof it. We only have an hour."
