AN: Basicly, so many other silee authors have been productive lately, whilst I've been standing still on the progress of the Hangover saga. It's loosening up now, don't worry, can't say when the next chapter will be done as I've determined the character order and I write some here and there, for when I'm most inspired and such. So they will be out soon, I hope. So anyways, having not posted anything new in a while I felt really un-productive. And it wasn't from lack of ideas, but more from my rule of never writing mroe than one series at a time... so instead I'll get some stand-alones out here and there. That's not breaking the rules :P
AN2: This is not being made into a series or getting sequels... lol Just giving you heads up on it. It's a one-shot. One-shot.
When it started they both had the fullest intentions to tell the crew, honest. But between Simon's fear of the captain throwing him out the airlock and Kaylee's intent on keeping him all to herself, having longed for this for many, many months, neither of them could see the harm of keeping this secret for a couple of weeks. Then Zoe and Wash had a spat, it wasn't that uncommon and it wasn't on a very big scale either as it was over in just a couple of days, but it threw Mal even more off approving the idea of shipboard romances, even put the dance he had going with Inara to a halt. Something that again resulted in frustrating the companion to hell. Bursting with wishes to tell her, Kaylee kept the news to herself. It wouldn't be right of her, to prance her good news to her best friend at a time like this.
When a routine check ended with Simon telling her she was pregnant, Kaylee's first instinct was on telling her best friend, but as she still hadn't even told her about the relationship in the first place, the mechanic let it slide. Telling the crew was out of the question until Simon could figure a way of letting them know that wouldn't end with blood boiling through his ears. Once more they didn't
And you know the idea of Simon and Kaylee with a baby just makes me grin like a moonbrain.
...and...guess what? I LOVE IT!!!! *not enough exclamation marks to cover it* Even Jewel says she'd like to see Kaylee preggers and I think you could write the story line! SQUEE! When I have more time, I'll read it again! :D :D 10! 10! BTW...you forgot a disclaimer at the front...wouldnt want you getting sued! ;)
And the babies, dates, Simon stuffing his foot in his mouth, Kaylee blowing up at Simon for no obvious reason, River, Jayne and Mal's various attempts at screwing with them....they ALL make me grin like a moonbrain.
Like how you actually captured the pregnancy thing - tired, moody, Capt. Meany makes her cry.
(He makes everybody cry...)
One thing I would suggest- Go back and put the dialogue in parenthesis format, with descriptors, for example;
"Shouldn't we wait for Kaylee?" Inara asked, concerned.
Mal (enter action here- filled his plate/shrugged casually/frowned at Simon/ etc) "She'll come as soon as she's washed up. 'sides she already knows the news."
It just adds to the readability and gives the reader an opportunity to switch characters mentally through long dialogues.
- Are we noticing how the words suspenders didn't make the list?
ROTFL! I was howling out loud...
>- I would, but I've long learned you can't teach a dog new tricks.
- Hey, you comparin' me to a mut?
LOL'ing here too...
Very nicely done. I'd like to see Kaylee pregnant as well, but not right off in their relationship. But just because I'll never write it, doesn't mean I don't like to read it:)
I do love how they sneak around and how Mal finds out. And then his reaction to seeing them kiss for the first time....even though she's 5 months pregnant.
Though i'm still slightly crushed that you didn't finish up the series about everyone's morning after Truth or Dare Spin the Bottle.

You know how I usually feel about the excess of Simon/Kaylee fics out there, but this one was soooo cute! And with the same amount of subtlety I think Joss would've used for this subject. Your characterization is great, I loved the Wash/Zoe and Mal/Inara banter!!
Squee!
