Synopsis: Mal’s meddling has kept Simon and Kaylee apart for as long as Kaylee can stand it. She takes matters into her own hands to get what she wants.

Kaylee stalked the deserted hallway, her normally cheerful face downcast, her eyes filled with determination. She loved her Captain, she really did. He was kind, and funny and – lately, had been a real tyrant when it came to her spending time with Simon. He hadn’t, in so many words, forbidden their new relationship, but it was very apparent when he looked at them that he didn’t approve. And over the last week, he had kept Simon so busy that by the time he’d crawled into bed, the only energy he had left was to press an all too brief kiss to her lips.
Simon never went on jobs on account of his fugitive status. But lately, he’d gone on every single one. And sometimes he got shot at, most of the times, he was treating crew’s wounds or even had his medical services loaned out in the town where they were docked, so the Captain could look better to his clients – and keep him away from her.
Mal had even kept her busy. While Simon was on jobs, she got to babysit River, or make dinner, prep the bay for cargo, or guard the ship, or – She didn’t mind, not at first, but it took her away from her normal duties as ship’s mechanic. So when they returned from the suddenly plentiful supply of jobs, she would only then be able to get to work on her baby.
