I've been bitten by the fanfic bug, but still don't know how to do this properly. Same as before, I've written this as a screenplay due to my utter lack of narrative style. Any edits or comments would be very welcome. And if anyone out there has a clever way to do line breaks as opposed to hard returns, please let me know. It looks very different after I paste it and I’m wayyy too lazy to manually put all the breaks in.

Oh, and the PG is just for one very small naughty word, which I need to get translated into Chinese.

Open

Simon and Kaylee walking together in a fairly busy farmer’s market.

Kaylee

“See, all I needed was some fresh air. I’m fine.”

Simon

“Jayne’s cooking always makes me nervous. We’re lucky we’re not all sick….Ah, I see just the thing”

Notices a vendor selling apples, picks one up, hands it to Kaylee and pays for it, fishing through pockets giving the vendor everything he's got.

Kaylee

Regards apple

“Thanks. You know what they say…an apple a day…”

Simon

Snatches apple

“You’re right. I hadn’t thought about that”

Kaylee

Laughs. Lunges for him, one hand on his arm, another snatches apple back

“What is it with you gorram Tams and MY produce?”

A third hand grabs his shoulder, an unseen person says

“Simon Tam!

Simon, eyes wide, pivots to see who it is and gasps….

Kaylee clutches him thinking he’s been busted.

----------------------------------

Elegant older Asian woman grins at Simon.

“What, no apple for teacher?

“What are you doing here?”

“Good to see you too.”

“No I didn’t mean….”

Cuts him off “I know what I’m doing here, I live here. I‘m buying groceries. Did Osiris run out of fruit?”

“N-n-n-no. I’m just….”

Cuts him off again, turns her attention to Kaylee

“Rude boy, where are your manners. Aren’t you going to introduce me to the young lady?”

Simon, still reeling

“Ah…ah…. Of course. Kaylee, this is Mme. Huan, my old …

Mme Huan raises scolding eyebrow

“Former….m

I have one suggestion with the writing style, could you maybe put things like this instead:

Kaylee (Regards apple)

“Thanks. You know what they say…an apple a day…”

Simon (Snatches apple)

“You’re right. I hadn’t thought about that”

Kaylee (Laughs. Lunges for him, one hand on his arm, another snatches apple back)

“What is it with you gorram Tams and MY produce?”

OR

Kaylee regards the apple.

Kaylee: "Thanks. You know what they say…an apple a day…"

Simon snatches the apple.

Simon: "You’re right. I hadn’t thought about that"

Kaylee laughs. Lunges for him, one hand on his arm, another snatches apple back

Kaylee: "What is it with you gorram Tams and MY produce?"

It's just a suggestion.

This is amazing. Right on with the characters! And Jayne's "I've already got a stick" I nearly died laughing. Great work. Hope there's more to this story.

"The sheriff forgot his manners, and REALLY enjoyed my punch at a party last year. He forgot many things that night.
How to walk, how to keep his thoughts about women to himself, how his wife was beside him..."

I agree with Bellona, the old lady does rock. Her conversation with Jayne about the benefits of being able to express oneself musically was priceless. I loved how Jayne assured her that he already had the big stick he would need.
Looking forward to future stories.

Absolutely shiny!
I love the part about Mme Huan being Simon's FORMER teacher, not OLD teacher.

Please give us more!

Oh, this was excellent. Is there a story following this? Maybe where he gives them to her?

Nice S/K. There needs to be more out there.
