Blue Sun Pumpkin

It being that time of year again, my boyfriend decided to try his hand at pumpkin calligraphy. Here is the result, as his aching wrists can attest:

Okay, maybe I am just bad at carving. Obviously Chinese characters do work. Shiny job!

Hey all,
That's my pumpkin up there, and thanks for the shiny comments! I carved it freehand (in other words, I did not use a pre-printed pattern transferred to the pumpkin, but I probably should have) using a Black&Decker jigsaw and one of those really tiny knives you get out of the My First Pumpkin carving sets at the department store.
I actually broke the second symbol clear out of the pumpkin - the one in the ovoid of light. It's held in by a clever arrangement (If I say so myself) of toothpicks and some of RoseNeko's sewing needles. I have a pretty awesome case of carpal tunnel syndrome, and this pumpkin certainly didn't help it along. Nevertheless, I am seriously happy about how it turned out.
The carving says "Blue Sun," the Mandarin characters courtesy of fireflychinese.home.att.net. It took about an hour worth of memorizing the symbols and deciding how I wanted to carve them. Carving took almost two hours, mostly because I broke the gorram symbol out and had to figure out how to get it back in.
