Get the Cooper S -- it's supercharged. If you want more power, just change one of the pulleys (bigger on the crank or smaller on the compressor) for more boost. If you blow the head gasket, you went too far.

Thanks YT - Truth is my wife got a Mini in 2003. She likes the auto so we got the basic 110 hp. Don't get me wrong... it is a very nice car... but if you're trying to make a left turn across traffic... you can't help but want some more giddy-up while you're lifting your feet off the mats to lighten the load. Especially since it has ended up being our run around auto of choice (good gas mileage) meaning I'm driving it... a lot. We've tried the "software updates" but the engine can only do what it can do.
So I was happy to see they now make the S with auto. I'm intrigued by you "pulley" suggestions - anything online I can read thru?
