Browncoat Uniform (Work in Progress)

Sunday, January 30, 2005

My costume in progress. All that's lacking is the chainmail-like sleeves, burlap-like undershirt, and scarf.

What did you use for the rifle?

rifle looks like a G36K to me. german, 5.56x45MM feeds for a 30 round box (shown) or 100 round drum. folding stock. looks like the export version with the modular rail, probably a 3 or 3.5 ish power optical sight. very nice uniform, too bad the gun's an airsoft (flash suppressor gives it away, what with being orange)

The flash suppressor is orange so people can tell is a fake gun. It a Federal law in the US IIRC.

Very cool uniform techiecl.

Yeaup, G36K, and double yup to it being airsoft. Its a cheap springer by the Eagle Company. They have it numbered as an M41 for some odd reason.

Thanks for the compliments. I'll be updating as it progresses.

They probably called it an ‘M41’ so they don't get sued by H&K. Lots of computer games have real life weapons/cars/and now aircraft with fictional names so the real life makers don't sue over licensing, I don’t see real life being much different.

Kool! where'd you get the shirty thing?

I made it.

The red vest was constructed from a large t-shirt by removing the sleeves with a stitch ripper, using fabric glue to attach the loops for the metal D-rings and the strips of polyrope. I used vest buckles to fasten the polyrope.

I put in a fake seam to make it seem like a closed vest rather than the open ones Mal, Tracy, and Zoe are shown wearing in the series. Though it doesn't really show up in the pic.

The trousers were suit pants. I cut off the the belt loops and with more fabric glue put on grossgrain ribbon for the stripping.

The suspenders, gun, and helmet (with liner) were purchased. And I commished an artist to put the symbol from the unofficial browncoat flag on it.

You may not want to head into battle with that blaze-orange shirt/vest--like to get yourself shot. People will see you coming a mile away in that getup.

*Shrug* I don't come up with the costume design. Look at the screenshots of "Serenity" and "The Message". Its clearly a red vest.

Where'd you get the Logo for the Helmet?

Very nice. Although there's one item missing that you didn't mention... a brown coat.

Actually if you notice in "Serenity" and "The Message" neither Zoe or Tracy have actual Brown Coats on.
