Silas Macawber sat in Flynt’s air traffic control center and waited for the end of his shift.

That’s what he did most days, and even though it was boring as hell, it suited him just fine. After all, they paid him good credits every day just to sit there for eight hours at a time and monitor the planetary traffic system. Since the only ships that showed up were Alliance transports and cruisers, you could set your watch by the schedule they kept. That meant that Silas had one of the cushiest jobs on the moon – keeping an eye on something that didn’t really need watching.

Still, the regular schedule had to be maintained, and that meant Silas needed to be here every day for his eight-hour shift, regardless of whether there was any incoming traffic due. Today was a little different, what with the Firefly transport moving into orbit and the shuttle landing a few hours ago. But other than that, the sky above was empty, leaving Silas at loose ends, as usual.

To kill some time, the controller was getting a lengthy foot massage from Wynona, his personal slave girl. She was a stunningly beautiful brunette with green eyes, a beautiful smile, and absolutely no clothing – not that it seemed to matter to her. In fact, nothing ever seemed to matter to her but his happiness, which suited him just fine, considering the completely unfulfilling nature of his job.

He’d taken her as his only minutes after she’d first walked off the Alliance cruiser that brought her here, unaware that her career as a sensor maintenance technician was about to turn into a full-time job as a sex toy and personal slave. Whatever they were pumping into the air worked pretty quickly, and she barely knew what was happening before she found herself naked and collared ... and in the service of Second Class Air Traffic Control Officer Macawber for the past three years.

As Silas looked down at her kneeling before him, his toes resting on her magnificent breasts as her strong fingers pressed into his arches, he saw the look of adoration and love

I'm pondering the ethical implications of poetic justice and double standards.

Granted all the men on the world are rapists because of situational opportunity, but it seems just as bad for them to become slaves themselves. Wouldn't it be better if the women remained innocent of wrong-doing in this case, just so everything is all the more damning against the men?

But then maybe that would cause the women to reveal the project, which would only force the Alliance to purge them and try on another world.

The only way out of the ethical mire would be to disable the effect of the chemicals entirely, then broadcast a request, from some males, before the last of it wears off, for the women to get some clothes on and forget their mistreatment... Which would be a mercy, honestly. And that way the Alliance shows up and sees the Pax apparently just stops working after a few years, and they axe the project that way.

Loved it!!!! And River is really a sneaky minx.

Glad to see Wash/Linda integrating more and making connections.

And Inara as a long haired Blonde wearing nothing but heels, a collar and a smile...

Nice to see the next chapter. Of course I have to ask... where's the next one? :)

Well, Bytemyte, that's part of why I had Mal tip the media to the moon's existence. The men won't be enslaved for more than a week or two, once the media ships arrive to find Flynt and turn it into a circus.

The planetary records will clearly show the whole sordid experiment for what it is, and with the atmo generators shut down, the effects will wear off, the women will leave (hopefully with what's left of the planetary treasury as damages), and the men will be left to be tried in the court of public opinion (along with the Alliance idiots who thought of the damned thing in the first place). *grin*

As River said, “See, Captain? Sometimes a plan really does go smooth!”

Well, that's better, although I'm still troubled by what all can happen in a week. It can only take a few seconds for a victim to kill their abuser... On one hand, considering what they've been through, it's understandable if the women seriously hurt, maim, or killed these men. But I'm struggling with how the men are now helpless, less aware even then children, and not even having the memory or presence of mind anymore to know what they did wrong to deserve their treatment.

It's like in Dollhouse, what happened at the end of The Hollow Men. I know some people probably cheered, and felt what happened was deserved, but I was just disturbed by it.

Sorry if this seems negative, I tend to get hung up very easily on ethical dilemmas.

Aside from all that, story-wise I can say this was a very creative resolution for this particular problem and story arc.

I get caught up in ethical dilemmas, too. *grin* That's why I did what i did. I couldn't let the men on Flynt just walk away. Heck, Wynona, the sensor maintenance technician had been a slave for three years, long after the experiment actually began.

At the same time, I couldn't let them all be killed or enslaved for too long -- that whole "absolute power corrupts" thing could turn the women as evil as the men, sick with the need for vengeance.

Finally, I made the experience from the slave's side to be one of intense pleasure every time you make your Master (or Mistress) happy. So they won't be suffering or even feeling abused when under the influence of the Pax. It's only afterward when they lose the influence that they remember everything they were forced to do -- and how much they enjoyed being a toy. One would think the knowledge of that aspect of the experience the women had would prevent them from killing the men, who would happily die at their hands to please them.

Because after all, where's the revenge in that? *grin*

It... Does seem better. Thanks for explaining. Although can I still find it a little disturbing that they enjoy the experience? Piece of work these drugs are. ._.

Ack, imagine if both men and women willingly decide to go under because it's such a great escape... How far away from that is the Pax that the Alliance would want to take verse wide? And people would submit willingly. Like a soma vacation... Probably the concept Pax was created after, considering the Miranda and Brave New World references involved.

I guess the "enjoying the experience" part would be the same effect the original Pax had that made folks warm and happy about everything while they slowly starved to death at their desks ... if they didn't go full tilt bozo, embrace Reaverness and enjoy the killing. *grin*

"Hell, I'll kill a man in a fair fight. Or if I think he's gonna start a fair fight. Or if he bothers me, or if there's a woman. Or if I'm gettin paid... mostly only when I'm gettin paid. ... But eating people alive? When does that get fun? " -- Jayne Cobb

Interesting way to pose moral questions! But that's what some fiction should do. And I enjoyed this - is there going to be more? Linda/Wash certainly seems to be getting more out of life, and with Jayne ...
