They were in Natalie's room in Serenity's passenger quarters. Paul mused that since they had become closer Natalie had not had any further violent episodes. She seemed so much better than the almost feral woman he had first met.

"I am."

He squeezed her hand, feeling more content than he had in a long while. The tangle of their intertwining limbs making him overlook the narrowness of the bed.

"It's the hormones not just the sex. Male an' female balance each other. Restoration of the natural order."

Paul brushed a tangle of hair from her eyes, his voice a concerned hush, his eyes warmed by his growing regard for her. "We should leave, Nat."

"Can't. They're gonna need us."

His eyes widened in alarm. Hadn't Jordan taken out the threat? "*Weishenme, xin gan*? What do you see?"

Your plot keeps thickening. Solve one problem get two more...kind of like life!

Another excellent chapter, and I agree with Katesfriend ... close one door and another half dozen are blown open! I love some of your descriptive passages, like the 'butter bright clouds' and 'none of the darkness of life had touched the light of his soul'. But mostly I like Mal's crew knowing him well enough to ward off any potential temper tantrums!

Am i late for the party..... :)

Gooooodd chapter!! This is just getting better and better, my friend. I agree with the girls, but more importantly, I love how you wrote the last scene with Gabriel and his wife. I could feel the coldness as well as the love and can just imagine what you are going to do with him soon. Not sure how Simon and River are going to feel about him though. Awesomely done, so very awesomely done....

Once again, you've outdone yourself. It's all coming together now into one great big angsty and altogether engaging story. Love to read the way you weave, Ali! :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. The problems multiplying is just life life, Katesfriend and Jane0904. So happy you liked the descriptive passages. As for how Simon and River will feel about what Gabriel does next, let's just say you won't see the end result coming. Yes, slumming, the angst is beginning to roll together as well pick up speed towards the finale a few chapters down the line. Hang on tight folks! Ali D :~)
