Oops, I just realized that this picture doesn't actually show all 9. But they supposedly had one fan dressed as each character. They just couldn't round all of them up for this photo.

Cool! The Jayne is really good, so is the Mal - who is the hottie dressed up as Malcom? The Kaylee sitting is almost scary she looks so much like Jewel!
Fans are so great.

The little Kaylee is the daughter of someone - can't remember who now. She was sweet. I didn't really get the names of the others. Matty interviewed each of them on Nathan's camera. He asked the Mal character something about which female was cutest or his favorite. Knowing that Jewel would watch this interview later, the Mal character wanted to make some admission about Kaylee's beauty. But the Inara character was his real life girlfriend (thus the decision for them to dress as Mal and Inara). She pretended to be *very* interested in how he answered that question by saying something like, "Of course Mal has eyes for no one but Inara." It was cute because of all the layers of who everyone really was.

They had everyone but Wash and Book. Later, they found a Wash to be in some of their pictures, which was really great. These guys were one of the highlights of the con for me - they did such a GREAT job of costuming and matching people to the characters they represented. Well done!

Just one question, where the he get the coat? It's just too close to the real thing.

I got lucky. Real lucky. I scoured eBay and other online sites for months looking for a suede long coat. Then I found this one:

I think it's actually a women's coat, but luckily for me it was a 2XL, since I'm 6'3"! I simply removed the buttons and added leather cuffs that were actually from a leather hood, cut in half, from a jacket I was using for another costume at the Con. I never did find the right hinges to make the buckles on the jacket, but I'm still lookin'. Good bloody luck to anyone else making this coat, it was a quest to be sure!

Is that Jewel's husband on the left? Cuz, I'm secure in my masculinity and all, but... damn.
Which is Secure-in-my-Masculinity-Speak for, "I would not show my girlfriend this picture."

I'm the Jayne in the above picture, and I'd just like to say thanks to everybody for all the kind words--both the fans at the Con and the fans on the boards. We just did it to entertain ourselves, but were knocked out by all the great responses we got. We were especially surprised at just how excited Nathan, Adam and Jewel were to see us dressed up as them! When I met Adam, I shook his hand and said (in Jayne voice): "You are my very favorite character." They were all fabulous, and Jewel's husband Matt was a super-nice guy as well. The Firefly-related guests, panels and costumes were definitely the most memorable parts of DragonCon for me. I hope all 9 of the real crew can make it next year!
P.S. We also had a Zoe and a Saffron, who we were separated from at the time, and a Book who showed up really late. It's a shame we didn't get more pictures with all of them as well as the Wash we ran into.
