Simon looked at the body laid out before him. He’d seen it uncovered and splayed open countless times but he had never been required to examine it in such detail until now. It felt like his first operating procedure all over again. He could hear the patient’s heart beat in a steady rhythm, unaware of his close scrutiny. His tools felt large and unwieldy in his hand, too heavy for the job. People were depending on him to get this right. The pressure was making the walls close in on him and he felt like he would faint.

"Ya okay, Simon?" Kaylee looked up at him with concerned eyes. "It’s just like I said. She’s got workin’s like anybody else."

Simon took a deep breath. "I’m ready."

"Shiny, here we go then." She pointed to an L-shaped part. "This here’s the catalyzer. That’s the bit that broke on yer birthday…"
