Ship design WIP

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

This is a WIP design for the ship my players will have in an upcoming Serenity game I'll be running.

It was a blockade runner during the war.

I still need to add the extra engines to the bulb. It will have 4 engines added.

And yes, it used heavily of Firefly parts, but was heavily modified.

I'll have a deckplan and sideviews also.

It's cool looking, but if I may point something out, a blockade runner would want it's engine's enclosed and not easily disabled or shot off. I would imagine a more blocky design for that usage. This could make sense for another type of craft, but it seems less than appropriate for a blockade runner.

I'll have to disagree with that analysis. Blockade runners and smugglers throughout history have relied on lightly armored, overpowered craft for their work. The idea being to slide in slow, under the radar so to speak, but have the juice and maneuverability to hightail it if detected. Armoring over the extra engines would just add weight, robbing power and making her sluggish. You up-armor if you plan on getting into a slugging match, something a runner would much rather avoid.

I always wonder what an Independent Blockad Runner looked liked.

That's a pretty sound design you have there. I would love to see front or side views of this.

I would imagine it's smaller than Serenity.

Thanks.

Well, I'd inteded it to be quite a bit smaller but once I really started working on it it ended up only about 40 feet shorter... all on the front end.
