Guerilla advertising on a larger scale - Part 2

People travelling into London were in for a shock this morning, a giant spaceship projected onto the houses of parliament. The ship is called 'Serenity' and the stunt was designed to garner publicity for the upcoming movie of the same name. "For a moment I thought it was real!" Remarked one passer-by.
This is the second large-scale marketting stunt pulled in the last week. On Monday a Serenity crop circle was found in Somerset.

Shiny.....just wondering as to if it's real or a nice bit of photoshop work? Perhaps we're seeing your future plans for when the movie premeires? Might be best to do it when star wars starts coming out to remind people that there was a GOOD scifi movie out at the same time.

you know, there's this projector thing I've seen for sale around here - and actually in use on someone's house - it projects a holiday image on the side of the house. Don't know what they use to make the image (light shone through a cellophane image, or mirror-reflection technology). Hmmmmmmm............ Maybe I've just discovered a reason to look into that....

It's Photoshop or some other editing app. I ve been there and there is no way you'd get an image of Serenity projected that brightly and on that large a scale during broad daylight. Besides it doesn't follow the contour of the buildings exterior. It's a clever idea though.

It's a great pic, and for a minute I THOUGHT it was real. Wish I knew how you people do this. As for the projected image, you print a picture on a sheet of clear mylar and then flick the switch. Just think back to school when the teacher brought out the projector to start a class assignment. Same thing, only now they're smaller, and available to the public. Some artists use it to project an image on the wall to begin a mural. It could work projecting an image of Serenity on any surface. Hope that helps. Fireflyfanforever.

Yeah, it's a quick photoshop job. SFX magazine in the UK is trying to promote the movie and a couple of their suggestions were crop circle or projection onto the HoP. Will anyone take up the challenge for real? Only time will tell.
