Chapter One: Something New

****

It was three years since the release of Miranda to the galaxy. The alliance receded to the inner planets trying to avoid the inevitable backlash of the worlds. Deep inside an Alliance complex on the planet Scorpion 9 was the location of the secret parliament. The metallic, bland walls gave the perfect atmosphere feeling for the suit-clad persons. A gloom spread across the parliament as the members convened for an important meeting. The twelve elitists sat quietly, each one making up a decision and scenario in their heads. One man sat at the very head of the oval tablet. He spoke first breaking the debilitating silence.

“We seem to continually come across dilemmas.” In that short sentence he grabbed the attention of the other eleven members. “We may be stalled for the time being; however we still control the inner planets.” A grin flashed across his grotesque face. “I see an opportunity for the Alliance.”

Whispers were thrown across the room. Thoughts and ideas were shot back and forth rapidly as the twelve members discussed what this ‘opportunity’ might just be. A parliament member at the end of the oval table leaned back in his chair. “Miranda is still closed to the ‘public.’ The reavers still surround the dead planet like a plague.” He cracked his knuckles so loudly that it echoed in the meeting room. “We can play this. Three years has been long enough for hiding. The New Alliance armada has grown nicely. I propose, as Mr. Reven has done subliminally, to re-take control.”

Another ‘Serenity Valley’ is not something that would look too good. Of course, we do have a few… ‘obstacles’ to remove from our path before proceeding.”

A cough was heard from across the table. “Obstac

Wha...? What's the plan here?

You've got me hooked, hope the next chapter's not far away. I love the characters here, and River not being too crazy anymore. Oh, and Jayne was priceless. :-D

Uh oh, something 'new'? That doesn't sound good. Like how this is starting off, a few spelling mistakes (obsticles instead of obstacles for instance) but nothing that can't be tweaked. Jayne crashed out under the table with all his guns left lying about was a bit of stretch because he is so picky when it comes to looking after his 'girls'. He wouldn't leave them out like that and he wouldn't fall asleep under the table unless he was drunk. Would've been more believable to me if Jayne had fallen asleep at the table in the middle of cleaning them but I liked the mental imagery anyway. I also loved the way you described Inara as if she was dressed for a ball which is how she always seems to look. Ali D :~)

LoL...that was priceless! And I love how you pulled us in and then left us hanging? The only thing is, I couldn't imagine River calling the captain anything but "Captain" or "Daddy" lol! Can't wait for more!!

Brilliant start here, Pa1ne! Definitely can't wait to see what you have up your sleeves concerning the BDHs and the Alliance's plan to get rid of them:D
