A/N: Sorry for the delay in this. Got a job this week and things just went from crazy to crazier!

This chapter is a bit short, but I think still chock full of angst and tension. I hope you like. It hasn't been beta'd so any mistakes are mine and mine alone!

Thanks to all who have read and responded ... although I'm noticing a drop off in those comments ... I guess I could just keep updating every week, instead of every other day ... is that what you'd prefer?!?!?!?

The Right To Love - Chapter 8 (Prompts 56-59)

***

056. Black

As soon as she caught sight of his black shoes on the rung of the ladder, she knew it was Simon. Brushing her hair back from her face and wishing she’d had the energy today to at least wash up, Kaylee waited, her lower lip between her teeth as he maneuvered his way down the ladder, a tray of something in his hands.

Placing his feet on solid ground, he looked towards her and smiled and in an instant Kaylee felt tears well in her eyes. He had the best smile. Blinking them away quickly, they held each others’ gazes for a moment and then Simon did something he had promised himself he wouldn’t. Placing the tray of food on the end of her bed, he moved towards her quickly and, without a word, kissed her.

If Kaylee was surprised by the suddenness of his movement, she made no sign of it, choosing instead to block out everything else

Seeing(?) Kaylee in this much pain is killing me. Your words really know how to hurt.
Great chapter as always, hope to see more interaction between Simon and The Fryes.
Fav line was 'Something tells me they’d know that smile of yours anywhere.' That made me grin.
Happy Easter to you to.

Oh it's so good to see Kaylee letting Simon in... but why do I get the feeling this is the calm before the storm?

Happy Easter! xxx

Well, its about time Kaylee lets Simon in. But I AM a fan of the angst. . . And the talk about 'this Simon character' will be fun!

This was very fine and I loved Mrs Frye gently teasing Simon before letting him take a tray up to Kaylee. So happy her papa didn't turn nasty with the Captain. Ali D :~)

Well...that was a narrowly-avoided bullet, the scene between Mal and Mr. Frye. Just glad Mal was actively working his charm and Hank was an understanding fella;)

Still...while I am overjoyed with Kaylee opening up to Kaylee, I really get the feeling that it's a small step forward before the big hop back. Just hope Simon and the crew can be there for her:(

BEB

P.S. Have to admit I got temporarily confuzzled when you referred to Kaylee's dad by his given name. Thought your storyverse and Jane0904's has crossed over...two characters named Hank and all;)
