Lucky for you all, or not - really, here is the next part so soon.

For those of you who read Chapter 8 last night, you've read some of this already. Some has changed, mostly little additions here and there, but nothing substantial has been taken away.

Sorry for the mistake! It was late, I was tired. And I shouldn't be posting at night anymore! I'm hoping to have the whole story done and posted by next week.

There are 12 chapters all together. . .

Chapter 8 can be found http://www.fireflyfans.net/bluesun.aspx?bid=15959>; Here

Thanks to Tamsibling and Mal4Prez for the beta.

Chapter 9

-------------

Kaylee stood with her head on Simon’s shoulder, face buried in his neck, arms wrapped around his torso. Her voice was muffled as she murmured, “Please hurry back.”

Simon held her tightly, as he’d done at every available moment over the last week while they’d traveled toward their destination. It was time for Kaylee, Inara and Madeline to leave and, as he suspected, it was proving difficult to get Kaylee into the shuttle.

So, instead, he stood in the middle of the bunk they’d shared for the last few months and simply held her, willing himself not to wonder if he’d ever see her, or their baby, again. He’d monitored her closely and there had been no further labor pains, but he still prepared a medical kit, even though they would only be en route for a few hours.

“I’m sorry for bein’ such a fei fei de pi yan. I just –“

Simon tilted his head and kissed her quickly; the rest of whatever she was going to say died on her lips. “Don’t worry about it. We’ll be okay.”

She stared up at him with such wide, open and trusting eyes that he wanted to look away before they burned a hole through his heart.

“Promise me, Simon.”

He swallowed hard and cupped the back of her head in the palm of his hand. Meeting her intense gaze, he held it for a long while, saying nothing, until he dropped his forehead to hers and exhaled gently.

Wow! Please kill off this Maris person. Please! I love your story!

This is unbelievable! I'm surprised I haven't had a heartattack yet from the tension - you write it so believably well.

And of course, each moment is just like a little knife stabbing my heart. From Simon and Kaylee struggling to say goodbye to Mal and Inara being too pigheaded to admit their feelings - to Maris holding them hostage - ooh, I really don't like her!

Sad to say, since I've read the whole thing and know where it's going, my stomach is just in knots ... but in a good way - really ... :-{

Oh Wow! Talk about the *goushi* hitting the fan, this is bad. Very very bad. I hope Mal and co have some thrilling heroics up their sleeves to get them out of this one. Brilliant, Ali D :~)

Oh...definitely some utterly brilliant stuff here, Leiasky! Could definitely picture this kind of awkward departure scene...though i was hoping Mal would pull Inara aside, bully through her walls and tell her that he would rather haver her at his side, but couldn't face losing her;)

Nice plot twist, Leiasky... I like the irony of the situation...Mal sending Inara away to keep her safe, demanding that she go, hurting her feelings with his words in the process, and now her and Kaylee have guns to their heads.

Inara recognizing that she could have given Mal a chance to apologize is a frog's leap of growth for her.

waiting for the next chapter

Why do I get this feeling like you're going to kill Inara? Or Kaylee, or... River?

O.O

If suspense could kill, I'd be dead.

He snorted and opened his eyes. The ceiling was bare and a bit of rust tinged the metal edges, but as he reflected on his life, he understood that petty selfishness existed everywhere. Out on the Rim it simply came wrapped in a far uglier and less attractive package.

Nice reflection. I do like when things aren't black and white. ;)

deep breaths just turned into really sharp chest pains....reaching for the adreneline.....jesus, Leia you're killin me with this! lol. TWO someones?
Oh that is just all kinds of bad.
Reading this thing all at once must be like holding plastic explosive..and realizing you just set the timer.
And yes, please kill Maris..spectacularily, I might add!

Holy crap in a box :-O I hate Maris, I wish she'd die a slow and painful death sometime soon. Damn her! I'm really fearing for Inara and especially Kaylee's safety, here's hoping the baby doesn't pick now to arrive *fingers crossed*

River's premonition scene was really chilling, great work there! On to the next chapter right now :-)
