Chapter Thirteen: Welcome Home

Kaylee hears the clank of the docking clamps latching onto the shuttle and the little craft powering down. The delay as Jayne goes through the shutdown sequence seems interminable and she’s almost beside herself when she finally hears the deep metallic scraping of the hatch unlatching. The door swings wide and her man ducks through, unprepared for the armful of woman that launches at him.

“Whoa, babygirl!” he exclaims as she flings her legs around his middle and wraps her arms around his neck. Fortunately, he’s not carrying his gear and he cups his big paws under her bottom, easily supporting her weight as she kisses him full on.

Ai ya! Lemme breath, honey…” he pleads as he comes up for air. The merc looks over her shoulder to see Mal standing in the corridor behind them, his eyes closed in distress, thumb and forefinger clasping the bridge of his nose as he shakes his head “no” over and over.

“Put my mechanic down, Jayne. An’ gently, if you please.”

“Hey, we had a deal, Mal. Remember? You got your shuttle back. I’m claimin’ m’girl.”

Ten minutes later, merc and mechanic and guitar and duffel are all down in Jayne’s bunk. Jayne studiously surveys his quarters, brows knott

Oooh...first post! Sweetness!

Well...that was a mighty brilliant concluding chapter you have presented us, hisgoodgirl! Definitely some Grade A material:D

And as to what you should tackle next? I think an exploration of the first idea - the jam - would be great. Maybe have Kaylee unintentionally hear Jayne discuss how the jam is special to him and how it's the only link to his ma unless he gets post or visits (which he can't do because of Bryce), and then have Kaylee come up with some mighty fine plans for how they can both get some...pleasure...outta if;D

A lovely finish to the story HGG! Yay!

As for this:
"Now where from here? What does Kaylee do with Jayne’s Ma’s jam? Will he follow up on the marriage proposal? Will he dare go back to Sunderland to introduce his girl to Annalee, knowing that Bryce is gunning for him? You tell me…what do I tackle next?"

My answer would be a resounding "Yes!" to all of it. Gotta keep you busy... :o)

Great story HGG!

I am a big fan of Jayne and JK ships and I must say that your story is one of the best I've read. I really enjoyed the background on Jayne and how tough his childhood was... seems like a line that the writers of FF/S would have developed if given the chance. Plus, I think I'm just a sucker for the tall, dark and handsome.

I really liked how you gave Jayne a deeper, more emotional character. I really hate how some write him as some 1-D fool. I personally see him as a man with a dark past, someone who is private about his life. I think he may not be as educated as someone like Simon, but has a strong wit and street smarts, which has aloud him to live this long in the 'Verse. I liked how you made parallels between Jayne’s drinking and that of his father’s… afraid he might end up like him someday. I liked how he views Kaylee as a constant light in his darkness. He’s not some virtuous cowboy with a big white hat and steed… none of them are. He is human; breakable, emotional and raw, even if he doesn’t what it to show.

So, once again, great story and keep up the good work. Can’t wait to read the next.

Keep your eyes to the skies!
