* * * * *

It was one of the most luxurious places either of them had ever seen. Wash turned slowly, his eyes trying to drink in as much as he could at once. Zoe smiled, not the fleeting small smile of transitory pleasure but the deep full smile of a woman knowing she was about to get exactly what she had been longing for. Wash's mouth flapped a couple of times before he managed to form coherent speech.

"Can we afford this, *bao bei*?"

The marble tiles on the floor alone probably cost more than the crew could have earned in a year, the place was huge but fortunately not cold. No, anything but that. Slowly they walked and took in the beautiful sculptured figures dotted around the cavernous room, life size anatomically correct men and women posing unashamed in their naked glory. Wash's eyes were wide as saucers until he looked up. Zoe had wandered off to check out the walls, long involved mosaics portraying the kind of life a body could only dream of. It seemed to echo tales of ancient Rome or Greece on Earth-That-Was. "If we can't," said the warrior woman, "this would be worth stealing for."

When Wash didn't answer she dragged her eyes away to look in his direction, her eyes liftin

Something tells me that getting Jayne back and putting Niska down once and for all will be a lot harder than any of the crew can possibly fathom. Cuz Niska is smart enough to know he's gotta anticipate and control any and all potential actions the BDHs could take:(

Still...brilliant work here, AMDOBELL! Definitely can't wait for part 3;)

I really like your Niska voice here. He seems to be a hard character to write well but you did him justice here.

I like Mal's fear that Niska won't stop with Jayne and will go after everyone else as well. I can't even imagine his reaction if Inara or Kaylee were captured.

Like your Wash and Zoe scene too. Made me giggle. And the sheer sweet innocence of the S/K scene made me smile happily.

I can't write Niska - and I've tried! I love the juxtaposition of the light-hearted and the plain nasty. Joss would be proud!

Brrr......I don't like Jayne, but I still have to feel for him, being in Niska's clutches and all. I like Mal's rage and guilt, although I think he'd hold it together a little better while actually talking to Niska, the emotion is very much in character. Next chapter soon??

I loved your S/K scene. You expertly captured Kaylee's enjoyment of the special fruit and her appreciation of Simon's kiss ... *sigh* so lovely!
