Zoë had been having strange dreams. Well, strange for her.
Usually, when Zoë dreamed, she never remembered them. When she did, they were usually about the war. She never let them bother her though. The war was done. She was on Serenity. There was a day of work ahead. Simple as that.
But ever since Wash died, she was remembering her dreams more often. They weren’t about the war either. They were...bright. Every time, she would be on some remote beach.
She was there with Wash.
And they were happy.
Zoë shook them off at first. She chalked it up to grief and went on with her day. After a while though, they stopped being ‘just dreams’ and were seemingly real. She could smell the salt air. She could feel the sun on her back.
She could feel Wash breathe.
Every bit of her dreams felt real.
And when the morning came, Zoë felt like crying. Even in the black, the morning would rip Wash away from her again.
She still kept up the stoic appearance once she got out of her bunk. She kept telling herself that they were just dreams. She shouldn’t be bothered by them. Even with River mumbling things about death being misleading and sleeping with ghosts whenever she saw her in the morning.
Zoë continued with the life she had before, but she look forward to sleep. To be with Wash before he left her again in the morning.
I think you've captured Zoe and her dreams perfectly.
You can't take the sky from me
Still...mighty lovely work you've done here, ShinyYukari:D
