They stood, looking at the contraption.

"There's got to be another way" Doyle said.

Angel looked at him sadly then looked down at the masses of half demons watching them.

"It's all right," he said confidently.

"No!" Cordelia said from behind them.

Doyle turned slightly to face Angel and gave him a rather watery smile but a smile nonetheless. He put his hand on Angel's shoulder, feeling the muscles rippling beneath the skin and wished he had attempted to get closer to the man because he knew he would never have the chance now.

Doyle also knew that he couldn't let Angel die so he looked up into the tall vampire's eyes and said "The good fight, yeah? You never know until you've been tested. I get that now!" and then he punched Angel hard, knocking him off the small platform they were on to the floor below.

Doyle's hand hurt from that punch, the Vampire's jaw was like iron, but it didn't hurt half as much as his heart.

He turned to Cordelia, took her face in his hands and kissed her. Slow and deep, enough time passing for him to feel the vision power drain through the connection to settle in Cordy's head. Doyle knew she would be pissed at first but also that she would accept it in time.

After he had finished and pulled back, Cordy was panting for breath.

Doyle smiled gently and said "Too bad we'll never know.....” his face turned green and spiky and his eyes glowed red. His demon half had pushed its way to the surface, "if this is a face you could learn to love" he continued gazing into Cordelia's eyes.

Doyle pushed back and gathered a deep breath for the pain he knew was certain to come.

From below him, he heard Angel shout "

Liked the idea that Doyle didn't die - good on you for that - and honestly the rest really isn't my style, although the writing is very good.

Only thing I would change - and thank you Haken for the edit feature - is Mal's line:

"Oh crap! What the hell is going on around here?" Mal couldn't figure this is all out.

Should have more Chinese-oriented swearing. "Chinese for the RP Player" in the Firefly Universe thread can help you in that direction. You can never have too much Chinese in a Firefly fan fic - just remember to add a glossary of translations.

Nothing ever suggest in the series that either one of the 3 guys are even remotely interested in men. It's not that the story can not be interesting, it's that completely not in character. Mal, tender whith Jayne? Have you not seen Ariel?

Looks like Doyle took a wrong turn somewhere in the space-time continuum and ended up in the "Queer 'Fly for the Space Guy" 'verse.

Actually, I'm waiting for the sequel where Cordelia flashes through to the Sapphic 'verse. A little Cordy/Inara action, anyone?

yay!! Firefly slash!! with yummy Simon/Jayne goodness, Jayne not being evil, and to top it off, Doyle! I really love this- was beginning to think I was the only one who could see the slash potential in this series!
