Finally saw Skyline

Everyone said how bad it was. That's why I avoided it until now. And as much a fan of Donald ( Turk ) Faison as I am, it still took me this long to getting around to renting the damn thing. Sure, it was bad, but not as bad as Indiana Jones and the stupid crystal skulls. It was rather comic bookish, which I appreciated. and yes, there were parts I thought ridiculous, but I was expecting much, much worse. And there was a surprising amount of recognizable actors. Good to see Tony DiNozzo's old flame, Scottie ( Jeanne Benoit ) Thompson. It kinda had a Cloverfield feel to it, but w/ out the annoying POV shaky camera work. Which I really enjoyed. Even w/ the darkness and questionable science, I'll still give it a very charitable " C " .

Saying sorry ... again!

I haven't updated INDIGO in a couple of weeks, and I apologise profusely. I've been busy working (temping but it's still work) and writing my Castle hiatus story, but INDIGO is still in my mind, and I will get back to it. I know the way the story is going to go, it's just a case of finding time to sit and write it! So to all of you waiting for the next chapter ... soon, my friends, soon! Jane

Language in the "Verse
Tuesday, 12 July 2011 17:05:50

Bear with me while I indulge one of my favorite subjects, linguistics. I was just thinking about the languages spoken in our mythical ‘verse. For us, the audience, it’s presented as 21st century English spiced up with interesting regional slang, such as “blubberous,” and “What must you think of them that choose it?” etc., and some Chinese thrown in. But really, what would it have sounded like? Look at the differences between Elizabethan English, spoken about 500 years ago, and our modern English. If you send people, presumably from every country on Earth who are speaking many different languages, out into space, and then mix them up even more than we are these days with globalization, then let it all stew for 500 or so years, then you’ve got to have a pretty different sounding set of languages. The Chinese would be just as different. For dramatic purposes Joss had to give us only English and Chinese, but, as I mentioned, there would most likely be a fair assortment of tongues spoken in the new system, with a lot of them some pretty interesting new blended languages. It just tickles me to ponder on it, so it does.

.long time coming.

According to my fireflyfans.net profile, it's been almost 5 years since I last posted. I lurked without posting occassionally, but ... life intervened. Back on track now, and all the recent SciFi showings of Firefly have brought me back around. This community helped me quite a bit back then. Just kept flyin'. Good to be back.

Any Browncoats in the Louisville KY area?
Thursday, 21 July 2011 19:28:13

Hey All, I've been meaning to do this now for months, but just never got around to it till today. There USE to be a group here called "Bluegrass Browncoats", but things fizzled out years ago. I would like to start something up again here locally, and I'm hoping to get some response from my post here... I miss being able to share my enthusiasm for the Verse....anyone willing to help me start things?

I seem to remember a list of Chinese translated words on this site a long time ago. I'm using Google translate at the moment--does anyone have a better site?
