Hello everyone, Just watched Castle for the third time this morning and although I like the show and enjoy it, the characters on the show seem more like friends (which they are) than relations. Now there’s nothing wrong with that and I admit it’s only in it’s second season but given the situation I do say maybe that’s all it will be. I enjoy CHUCK also and feel a little more of the same. Maybe not quite as much because they do get together for holiday gatherings and meals which makes it feel a little more like a family. But still not much more. Now family is the whole reason that I am writing this. The nine people on Firefly were/are a family. I don’t think that I’ve ever felt more strongly of a kinship or a bond among characters of a tv series more than I did those folk on that tiny vessel, and they only had one season to pull it off. That thought in mind had me going through certain scenes in my head and it came to me that each character at some point refers to Serenity as theirs, or part of the BDShip as theirs or belonging to them. Mal does it all through out the 14 episodes. “ My ship is not the rutting town hall!” and Kaylee does it when she calls Serenity her “good girl” and also “ Hear what that purple belly called Serenity!” It’s like the ship is hers. Here are some others I’ve listed; Book, “ It’s good to be home.” Mal to Jayne, “ Wanna be captain !?” Jayne, “ YES!” ( he would be more than happy for the boat to be his) “ I’d do a sight better job than you!” River, “ I am the ship. I became the ship.” Zoe and Wash: “ Don’t’ I stay with the ship?” “ I outrank you, have fun.” (both showing that the ship is theirs while Mal is away) Inara, “ What did I say about entering my shuttle uninvited!” Mal, “ It’s my shuttle, you rent it.” Inara, “Then when I’m behind on the rent you can enter unannounced.” And also, “ I love this ship, always have…….” My point being that in the cramped quarters of this small vessel each and every crewmember has become emotionally invested. They do for one another, they do for the ship. They count on their unspoken kinship. It was shown in the “Out of Gas” episode when Zoe called for the shuttles to return to Serenity. She seemed to have gotten an argument from no one and all knowing they were going back for their death. Even Jayne states that they would have arrived first if not for what Inara had done to her shuttle ( which we know really was nothing). The only character aboard that shies away from the noting that Serenity is home is Simon. Don’t know if I’ve ever heard him announce anything about Serenity with affection. Just some thoughts, Z

Despite the site blocker I downloaded, my time I spend on the internet at work has again hit levels that are starting to worry me. So I'm going to have to begin enforcing more restrictions. I like browsing fireflyfans and seeing someone's posted a new story, but I'm going to have to wait to read them and comment until I get home. The same goes for checking my personal e-mail and messages. Just wanted to let all you shiny folks I like talking to know, so you don't think I'm ignoring you.

...is a good show. However I can't shake the feeling that it's all been done before. The fact that it's a cop show doesn't help, but all the other elements of the show are in other shows as well. For example: *an author that solves crime (from Bones) *a daughter that plays an active role in each episode (as in Lie To Me) *a mother that plays an active role in each episode (like Burn Notice) and *a cop who has a tragic past that motivated them to join the police (from, oh, EVERY SINGLE COP SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF TELEVISION. doesn't anyone become a cop just because they want to.) Now, I'm not saying that Castle is a bad show, in fact it's one of favourite shows on TV right now. I suppose it all just falls under the old saying: "There's nothing new under the sun." And I just started watching Buffy from the beginning and (a. it's a bloody awesome show and (b. David Boreneaz looks about twelve (watching an old buffy episode then a new bones episode back to back is quite weird.) Me Done.

Animals are intelligent, soulful creatures. I strongly believe this, I've seen ample evidence that despite not being able to communicate, that they UNDERSTAND things about at the level of a three year old. Dogs immediately perk up at "walk" and fetch their leashes. Cats understand the words "protein treat" and "turkey." And sometimes, SOMETIMES they outsmart you, and make you feel like an idiot child. So, I was doing some touch up work in acrylics on some Christmas ornaments today. My family starts early, we decorate pretty thoroughly for Christmas, and we're already making our plans in October. I had a little plate out where I'd put samples of paint, and I was using a little toothpick for the detail work. Dab, dab. Dab, dab. One of my cats was nearby, watching, and I KNEW what she was thinking. So I kept pushing her away, but I didn't really feel like putting her somewhere else. She wasn't hurting anything, and it was kind of companionable. Well, I don't pay attention for three seconds, and suddenly she's dabbing her paw in the paint like I was. I yell at her, "Misty!" and she goes into one of those playful crouches, feet splayed apart, then darts off. If she was human, she probably would have given an evil mischievous laugh. I was anticipating this, so I was pretty quick to catch her. She had a lot of fun being chased, and even didn't mind the quick rinse-off I gave her. It was actually kind of funny, so once I cleaned up, I gave her a good scratch behind the ears.

So, yesterday I journeyed all the way to London to see the new art installation by Martin Firrell being projected onto the side of the Guards Chapel at Wellington Barracks, and I have to say, if you can get there before 10th November, please do so. It's inspiring and thought provoking. I also attended the reception, and managed to talk to Nathan for a minute or two. I didn't get his autograph, but what I did get was even better, which was a photo he took of the pair of us with my camera! (As I can't figure out how to upload the picture here, I'll put it in the Blue Sun Room, so drop by and take a look.) We shook hands twice, and he was the most pleasant and nice person you could imagine. Even though his parents were there, he still took the time out to talk to his fans, and that is the mark of a real gentleman. I am just so glad I got the courage up to approach him, but it did take two glasses of red wine to do so ...

Today, I worked on my story. Not the next chapter, but outlining some of the Mal/Inara stuff I have planned for close to the end of Eidolon, and getting the rough ideas down before I forgot about it. Stuff that I'm going to have to make very carefully sure that I cut off appropriately before it could potentially become smut. It's a bit embarrassing for me to be writing anything like that. I mean, first it wouldn't be believable (

So...I've been away. Sorry. I'm going to try to do better. More friends have started watching "Firefly" and quoting it at me randomly. Which is nice, since it always makes me smile and my smiles have been the scary "oh, no, i think she's going to throw something sharp and pointy at me" smiles lately. Good thing office-enforced holidays are coming up. I've been trying to think of a new fic to write, but i'm hitting a wall. If anyone has any strange word-association-advice-requests, please let me know. I'd like to try another one-shot to get back in the swing of things. We'll see what happens. Let's just keep flyin' out there, dong ma?

**SQUEE** My Inara's shuttle from the amazing shiniest company ever, Qmx, came in the mail!!!! She is gorgeous!! And so tiny but all the detail is there. I hope to post pictures soon. I still can't believe she's here. YAY!

Well, it's up, finally. Ladies, Gents, and the rest of you, strap in and hold on tight, because part 1 of the idea I started in on a whole year ago has finally hit the black. It's the story of River Tam at the infamous Academy, through her diary entries. :wink: I'm only sorry it took so long. Hope those who liked the samples of the "Albatross" are still interested. So, if you like the (not so)crazy-talk of a certain moonbrain, go take a look. It takes a while to get going (had to get all that Alliance bureaucracy out of the way, which also functions as an introduction), but I hope to have you thoroughly confused by the end of part 1. Questions,guesses,comments, and wacky extrapolations are absolutely encouraged. Looks like the formatting took a serious hit, and online editing doesn't help much. It'll be easier later, without all the font-changing the Alliance seems to think necessary. Thanks to those that have been beta-ing, particularly you, Byte! You've all been a big help. :biggrin:

I know I haven't posted much lately but I was busy putting pen to paper, fingers to keyboard etc. Sorry, this is not Firefly related, only in that this is where it all started. I just finished the first draft of my first novel. 55,000 words so far. Yah it still needs polishing, but I'm happy with it. Now to find a publisher....

Is the title of my next three part 'Early Years' where Mal is wounded and we see how our beloved Cat must deal with the reality of someone she loves dying (though Mal does not). I have been trying to get around the writer's block that's been plaguing me over MASKS, but I'm finding it hard going. Normally by this point I have at least a good idea of the plot, perhaps even have the end written, but as of right now I might have an inkling of where I want the story to go, but that's about it. Maybe I'm trying to incorporate too many characters, too many threads, but at the moment it feels like I've got a ball of string all tangled up around my fingers and I can't find the end! Basically, I'm apologising (yet again) for not being able to get a decent chapter out this week. Writer's block aside, I've been having a few personal problems at home and work (not that you need to hear about that), and I'm just really tiding over until Christmas and the longer holiday. Anyway, be assured there will be a chapter soon (I hope), and I hope you enjoy it when I can finally get it uploaded! Jane :kiss:

I'm getting towards the end of Quest. And I've also hit a wall (Small one) with Discovery. I'm fielding suggestions as to what you all might like to see in the next installment of my "Maxverse" story line. IE, what villains from the verse should the Commonwealth Rangers go after. Any particular shippy things as well. Like I said, I'm open to suggestions. And I should have the next chapter of Quest up later today. Brian

Happy Thanksgiving, travellers. We got alot to be thankful for this year... I have work to be done and money to be made. Been busy as hell the last few weeks, and that looks to continue. Heading out to Texas next week for more fun. Hope it's warmer there. Hope everyone had lots to eat & someplace comfy to nap today!

I have to say that this is one of the best songs i've heard in a long time, and i mean a long time. I really love the fact that Rihanna put alot of emotion into this, and it blew me away, as does all of her work. I've heard a couple of songs off of "Rated R", and when i have the money to buy it, i will, you know bills, school, food, blah, blah, blah. This song has replaced "Umbrella" on my list of favorite songs in the genre.

It has been since about 2005 since I last posted anything on these boards! Thought I might give it a try again, see what comes of it. I have been mighty busy these last 4 years, mighty busy. I am in a new house, with a bunch of room mates, and we've been watching, and just finished, the Firefly series. Gonna cap it all off with the movie. Needless to say, folks that thought it was an odd concept, or a strange idea are now incredibly hooked to the show. Watching it, however, has become a bit of a double edged sword. So many unanswered questions, so many things that don't get to carry on. Sucks that the show is up and done with, ah well. Anyway, not sure who will read this, nor am I much to worried, it ain't much for content anyway, but I think I would like to try and get back into updating it more often, try and get back into the Browncoat community a bit more. We'll see, chat with you all later.

Gorramn it! i didn't get the money back my dad owes me, and as such i have to wait till payday to buy "Rated R". NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just not far, i have been helping him pay bills for over a year right, and now i'm starting to see more of my checks, and when something, (NOT JUST A PLAIN SOMETHING, A SPECIAL SOMETHING), comes out, like "Rated R", i get no money to buy it!!!!! SON OF A .....!!!!!!!!

Well, in accordance with my last blog post, my roommates and I have finished watching the firefly series. We capped off the series with the movie, respectively, and we did so in style! My boss had allowed us to borrow the projector to watch the Grey Cup final for the CFL, and I figured that since we had it, we may as well watch Serenity on it. For those who had watched the series for the first time, which basically everyone but myself, they really loved the movie, and went through pretty well the same motions I had gone through myself the first time I had seen it. For instance...Wash and Book shall be sorely missed. The solid desire for a sequel, and the many reasons as to why, and finally an understanding that the death of a character like Wash was a metaphor for the last nail in the coffin. Because let us be honest, what would the show be without him? Sadly empty and incomplete. Getting to watch the series again, as well as the movie, is always great as well. Its nice catching the things I hadn't quite noticed the previous times around. Things like color use, framing, composition, its all quite fascinating, and the proof of a labor of love. Anyway, it's late, I best be going, chat with you all later, stay shiny.
